Aran is typically thicker than worsted. Thickness of yarn is determined by the number of WPI( wraps per inch)
The Yarn Council determines how many wraps per inch makes it a fine, lace, sport, DK, worsted, aran, bulky,etc.
That said, there are many who protest the manufacturer label claim to worsted ( or whichever).
