I sort by weight too, then if I can I sort by color. I can be more flexible with color than I can with weight on a project.

I don’t have the motivation to do this, I just shove it all under my bed lol, I need to start caring bc all my yarn gets ‘lost’ and knotted

That’s why I started caring

i think the easiest and fastest way to organize all your yarn is to give it all to me :> …hehehehe /j

I just recently did this as well. I organized by type. Cotton, acrylic, chenille, crochet thread and a ziplock bag just for assorted leftover yarn. Plus I put,all my crochet tools together. I find one of those zippered pouches for pencils works beautiful for my assorted hooks, stitch markers, thread snippers, measuring tape and row counter. I have a special tube thing for my yarn needles. Now I can see what I have.

I usually go by type and then color. Like Id do like one shelf of acrylic organize then by ROYGBIV-ish. But i don’t have shelves, i have drawers and baskets, so i do them by type

Oof. I’ve organized my yarns so many times!! I do mine by type and colour! Up to you and what makes it easier  good luck with the sorting and if you get frustrated, just take a break and have a snack!!
