Yarn weights

So I’m not exactly new to crocheting, but what i simply always fail to understand is yarn weights. I think one of the problems is that I’m german and when I buy yarn here the weights are called different or something. So I always get very confused.

Does somebody know a good tutorial or can explain it to me?

Hi, I think using wraps per inch might help you the most. This website explains it well:
https://www.craftyarncouncil.com/standards/how-measure-wraps-inch-wpi

You can also check the gauge listed on the label, and see how closely it matches the gauge of the yarn you are trying to substitute (gauge is the number of stitches by the number of rows required to reach a certain size square, usually 10cm/4").
