You could probably order cotton thread via Hobii or via ice yarn.
I don’t know how it is with import taxes though.

Cotton thread size 10, it comes in other weights too. As the number of the thread goes up, the thickness diminishes. I believe you can purchase crochet thread from Annie’s. (Online catalog) Herschners.

I do encourage you to choose a thread project, a small one to get you feet wet. Crocheting with thread is done at a different pace and mindset IMO, slower and more deliberate stitches. Looking forward to seeing what you choose!
