Baby-proofing toys

Heyyyyy guys!
SO…
I’m making this bunny for the new spawn of my French teacher, and besides the “don’t use safety eyes/make em extra secure and melt em but I don’t wanna do that so yeah”, I need some advice to keep it safe for the kiddo! Anyone got any tips?
EDIT:

This is the pattern, BTW

I usually embroider the eyes if its for a baby, or you can use felt too :)

Make sure you stuff the neck firmly, if there is one
And maybe size down your hook incase holes are made in between the stitches, babies shouldn’t get their fingers stuck inside small holes

Ooh, that’s good advice, thanks!

Something I’ve done when making a stuffed animal for a baby is making sure I use natural fibres for the yarn and stuffing. Also downsizing my hook for smaller and tighter stiches + making sure I reinforce my sewing when sewing pieces onto a plushie.

I think embroidering or sewing felt for the eyes would also be a good idea, but if your stitches are tight enough and you’ve melted the back of the safety eye, then I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

My recommendations have been mentioned. Cotton yarn because everything goes in the mouth. NO safety eyes, Tight stitches. You got this!

Embroider the eyes

Cotton yarn leaves huge gaps in stitches for me, and I don’t want the child to go nom nommy on the stuffing- even I want to do that sometimes. I’ve been using bernat blanket, the baby blanket version and it seems like that’s okay to use by my research :]

I think another thing to watch out for is making sure it’s certified as safe for babies. See article put out by Premier Yarns.

If it’s creating gaps, try using a smaller hook. Synthetic yarns aren’t a great idea if babies are putting it in their mouths, because it’ll shed microplastics. I usually use DK cotton with a 3mm hook.

For eyes, you can also make crocheted ones and sew them on. Here are a couple of tutorials:
