Harvest season is here! Peaches/plums/grapes galore! Apples have a bit to go. Anyone else doing some canning this season?

They look so good! I haven’t gotten around to doing pears yet, but my favorite thing is finding them at random times throughout the year!

My mom does a lot of canning! The garden produced a lot of tomatoes so we canned some and my dad made a lot of salsa too
She also likes making jam when we pick strawberries and black caps!

Well, we bought our house from a retired soil scientist so there’s a huge garden in the backyard and he gave us his crop rotations too :sob:
he also planted asparagus and rhubarb (perennials!) for us and there were already 4 blueberry bushes too

That sounds like such a cool profession tbh

Gardens are alot of work, and alot of food :joy: but at least you inherited a good one! Rhubarb cobbler is the best :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Honestly their not super well kept haha
The birds are brutal, they eat so many

I just finished last weekend my salsa for the next year. Ill be canning dill pickles soon and spaghetti sauce. I was gonna try apple pie filling but I need to figure out when to find clear gel first before hand. My garden was late for producing this year so I’m just now getting my dill to flower and my cucumbers.
I’m so excited to see this topic :blue_heart::heart_hands:t2:

Sounds like you’ve been busy :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: i bet those pickles will be SO good. Hopefully you can get that clear gel too! I’ll have to try some apple pie filling myself when their ripe.

I just started canning this year, but my family has been doing it forever. I’m excited to try out tomato based things and veggies next year  canning is kind of an art in itself, i think.

Yea it is. The pickles are good I went and checked my garden yesterday and I have a few that are gonna be ready soon! I’d be curious to start canning fruits my grandma always canned a lot.

I did these with my grandma :joy: i told her she had to teach me, i always just watched as a kid since the jars get so hot.

Peaches were easy! We threw them in some boiling water until we could pinch the skins, so they peeled easy. Quarter them and shove in a jar, pour some simple syrup over them. Then a water bath to seal.
