sleeping?? never! crocheting with my eyes closed?? obviously!!
basically, recently i was on a very late flight and it was very dark, and me being me, was too lazy to try to turn on the light above me. i wouldnât have minded if my sister was the person next to me but it was some random dude soooo⌠no way was i embarrassing myself trying to reach the light if you couldnât tell, im short XD
i literally could not see a thing but really wanted to get the project i was working on done, so i started crocheting by feel!! it was actually quite easy as the project was a mesh tote bag, so i could feel the gaps and where to put my stitches!! eventually the lights came back on but still i closed my eyes to continue and practice crocheting without looking!! anddddd thats where i lost yarn chicken and couldnât finish my project anywaysâŚ
can you crochet without looking?? if so i need tips on how to do it with normal sc plzzz
oooooh i really want to try faux fur or feels like bliss but i can barely find my stitches in chenille iâll probably stick to acrylic or cotton for quite a bit
if you want to attempt doing it with normal stitches, then (while your looking at the project) try feeling the bump of the stitches before you go into them. Then you could try going into a few stitches while youre eyes are closed, and repeat! Keep in mind tho this just what i did so keep in mind this might not work!
i think it might be because i kinda lost my 3mm so now i use a 2.5mm and i think my stitches are really tight and i can barely get my hook into a st while looking i think its a sign to loosen my tensionâŚ
When I was a youngster I could crochet by feel, and was also really fast.
I had some issues with neurological stuff and have very little/no touch sensation in the first three fingers of both hands, so itâs not something I can do anymore.
My stepmother used to barely look at what she was making and was lightning fast and she was who taught me.
It can be done but I think it takes practice and you really have to have like perfectly even consistent tension as well
So I crochet on walks⌠and sometimes it gets dark.
My trick is a lot like @IzzycrochetsX3 where I feel for the next stitch. Let me explain how though.
While your hook is in a stitch ready to pull up a loop, thatâs when to feel for the next âholeâ where the hook will go next time. Pinch it between some fingers in the hand holding your yarn (not the hand with the hook). Keep pinching on the next hole and finish the current stitch you are on. Then guide your hook into the hole youâve been pinching. Then, while the hook is still in the new stitch, pinch the next hole between your fingers and repeat.
i have been trying to do it like that but im just really scared im going to accidentally miss a stitch i dont want to risk it because most of the things i crochet are orders so i want my customers to get what they paid for
People have been very surprised when I say I crochet in the dark! Iâm usually pretty careful about planning my projects for it though. I try to avoid anything that needs really specific stitch placement or stitch counting like amigurumi, and generally opt for simple stitch repeats I can feel and remember easily. I love making hats, so itâs usually hats that get made.
If you want some practice feeling for sc in the dark, maybe try a project using the lemon peel stitch? It alternates between sc and dc, and the height difference makes it a bit easier to verify where youâre at. Iâve used that in movie theatres in the past with success.
I have 100% falken asleep crocheting hex cardis more than once. Its gotten to the point that I sat âi can literally crochet in my sleepâ bc i wake up to being further than i was. as to crocheting otherwise without lookingâŚ.just keep practicing. I definitely find it easier with bigger hooks and yarn to not look but with time, you can do anything. (Been crocheting over 20 years and full time for 16ish)
