i highly support lo fi music! in grade school, when studying, i could never find the perfect music. lo fi did it for me. i don’t have adhd, but i do have ocd and struggled with that as a child.

I have the same problem! I usually do work until I get tired, then take 5-minute break max. It doesn’t matter if the work time is only 5 minutes, a short break has me refocuses better than trying to slog through. Hope this helps!

i also have adhd, and i have a horrid time concentrating as well. what works for me:

  • keep yourself busy (knee bouncing, finger tapping, etc)
  • take lots of breaks! especially if you cant focus, this helps your brain recharge:upside_down_face:
  • listen to music you know really well! that way its background music and you dont have to think abt the lyrics, you just know them
  • if you’re studying, do a pose like touching your toes or things like that, and every time you switch what thing you’re learning, do a different pose!
  • watch a tv show thats mildly boring so your full attention isnt on it, so you’re still working
i hope you find some ways that help you focus!! <3

Might I ask what kind of music you have tried to listen to? Because recently, I have learned that symphonies or piano really helps me focus, because it kind of just silences all the background noise for me. And it might not be the same for you. I’m sorry if I am already recommending something you already did but I just thought I would throw it out there. You can maybe mess around and find a type of music that really calms all the craziness going on up in your brain.

Jazz works well for me as well as some rousing classical music,

Kahoot music. Puts ur brain into instant focus mode. Not the lobby music, use the 20 second question one, that’s the one u usually hear when playing kahoot. It’s genius.

I also have a mini whiteboard. Writing on it is so fun so it helps me focus heaps! I do online school so I take notes on that to keep me focused.

Also, when cleaning, I find playing with my dog while simultaneously cleaning works for some reason? Like I can hang clothes better with one hand while I play with doggo better than I can normally. It’s weird.

Anyway, good luck!
(Note that I’m not diagnosed, but I’ve done a screening and it’s almost absolutely certain I’m neurodivergent in some way or another, we knew even before that screening test lol it’s obvious to family)

i dont think ill be that helpful but here are somethings i do when im kinda nervous or cant concentrate
so basically idk if this helps but it did help me i couldn’t rlly concentrate when i was doing school work w music but then i figured out some music that doesn’t rlly break my concentration stuff like lofi, brown noise or just rain droplets
idk if this works but my friend who has ADHD told me some tips she uses she says she uses like a 5 sec rule ill try to explain as much as i can when you notice ā€œI should do my homework,ā€ literally count 5-4-3-2-1 and force your body to start moving toward it before your brain argues and theres another one i tried but it didnt rlly work for me but ill tell u anyways :D reverse your deadlines tell a friend or someone, ā€œIf I don’t finish this essay in an hour, I’ll send you my most embarrassing thing .ā€(smth like that) srry for the very longg message and good luck w debate just a small tip coming from someone who is on a debate team if u cant rlly concentrate or dont know what to say i usually do summary speaker if u are a rlly good listener i think it will be easy u dont rlly have to think much you just have to extend abit hope this helps!

for me food or gum helps the most otherwise if i don’t have anything, my fingers have nothing to do and i end up biting the skin around my fingers until the bleed :grimacing::sweat_smile: so yh morale of the story for me is FOOD IS THE BEST!!!

I assume that you like math because of the ā€œsolving a puzzleā€ aspect of it. If so, you might like my technique: I had a really tough time studying History because I couldn’t remember anything specific. So I made insanely complexe mind maps. Making a map took a long time but it was not as boring as reading the lessons because I was focusing on fitting elements from the lesson into my mind map, rather than remembering the lesson. The goal was to use only keywords.
My plan was to then use the mind map as study notes (faster to read than my class notes), but creating it took so much brain power that I remembered every single detail from the moment I finished my map, no extra studying involved. It also made it easier to remember important info during exams because I could think ā€œwhere was X element on my map? What element was next?ā€

A few things that I do that helps me focus and stop procrastinating are

  1. getting in a comfy location/position (Not laying in bed)
  2. Have whatever you will need to work on within reach. ie. pencil, computer, assignment, whatever
  3. For me personally I need some sort of background sound so I usually would listen to whatever lyrical song I’m currently hyper-fixated on, on loop or if it is copying notes i might throw on a show or video to tune out.
    Hope this helps.

Us ADHD people have a super power at the moment something’s due, we get it done, hehe. I looove math too! Something I do, is if I am bored, I stop, and walk around a little. Or do something I like, either one.

When I was a kid, I use to play challenge games with myself. Like , how fast can I get dressed?
How fast can I put these clothes away.
Or, my favorite, watch a show, then how fast can I put my laundry away during the commercials.
Or, what can I get done before this song is over?

Bold of you to assume I have a way to focus /j. I have the same issue, if I don’t like something I can’t focus for anything but if I’m interested you physically can’t pry me away </3
