Heyyy guys! So, I’m getting a crochet Instagram account soon, but I’ve never had one! So I need ideas of what to post. I want to mainly post about my recent makes, pattern releases, and tester calls on Ribblr. I’d prefer advice from some people who have similar accounts, or crochet accounts in general. But feel free to comment whatever you think about this! And this way you guys can tag me when you use my patterns, I know I’ve been asked about that in the past. (I think my user will be the same/similar to my Ribblr one)
Idk cuz I don’t have one
(also, this isn’t self promo right? Please correct me if I’m wrong)
I don’t think so because it’s on another app. And not looking for followers or anything
Man I wish I could help but even though I’m way into high school I’m not allowed to have social media (this doesn’t count) I do love watching videos tho of people who do crochet tips or like speedrun crocheting or just feel good stuff
I wouldn’t think so. it’s similar to asking for advice for a pattern!
Haha, I’m a senior I’m highschool!
Whew, ok.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but are we supposed to post about other social media apps?
I think this is ok, as I’m not promoting a page, I’m asking for advice. But I could be wrong!
I don’t know.
@Leaders hello, we were wondering what the rules for posting about our accounts are for other social media platforms.
I like to post my recent makes which is mostly pattern tests! And I think it is really fun to switch up the background, especially if it compliments the plushie! I had a beach backdrop for a deep sea diver and it turned out so cute! Try to be a little consistent but don’t worry about it too much because in the end it really doesn’t matter that much! Ooh and its so fun to do matching music! I’m thinking of doing all of the disney songs for each one of the @AbbySky princesses once I get around to it![]()
I’m not entirely sure, but when I look at the community guidelines this is all I see
“Limit self-promotion to once every 7 days and consolidate updates (e.g., new patterns, giveaways, and results) into a single topic with tag self-promo.
Requests for followers and self promotion of businesses other than your Ribblr shops are not allowed.
External links and excessive promotion will be removed. Repeated offences are considered an abuse.”
If you have any other questions let me know I can try to double check with Ribblr
Exciting! Let me know once it’s set up so I can follow! ![]()
I use my account to share my makes, pattern tests I’ve done, and promote my patterns. I try to give some detail about what that pattern is (where the idea came from, the feeling when making it, and such). I do post when my tester calls are open on Ribblr and when the pattern is released (noting that it’s available only on Ribblr), as well as my tester appreciations and when new patterns will be coming to my shop. I post when I make a change to the pattern, and just my work in progress (usually on my stories).
It’s a bit like posting on Ribblr as well, where you can make progress posts, share your makes, and make pattern previews.
Usually what I like to see on crochet insta are reels, like the process of making the plushie(or whatever you’re making), and then on the picture side, a picture of the finished make.
But also, PLEASE include yarn, hook size, and pattern in the description of the videos or have a link in your bio for your materials, it’ll help reduce the amount of comments you have to reply to
Okay, thank you!
I have had an IG account for years and barely used it. Had to make a second 1 because of an IG mix up, so now have 2. Just recently started adding posts to my second account and using it as my crochet account. I keep toying with the idea of changing my Ribblr username to match my IG name (wouldn’t be a huge change).
I have found so many great things on IG and you should definitely do it!
I’ve used IG as my main platform for showing off my crochet for the past 2ish years & it’s definitely a bit of a learning curve compared to Ribblr. Sometimes posts do better than reels and other times reels do better than posts in my experience. There is a huge crochet community there though which is great for exposure and helps to find your account’s niche. My main recommendation is to keep your username the same as it is here or at most slightly different because of a dash or period. It makes it a lot easier to recommend designers & their pages when different platforms have a similar username name for them.
I personally post a lot of pattern tests and recent makes which people tend to like. I see a lot of tester calls and pattern release posts as well & making them unique to you definitely helps them to stand out more.
My insta is mainly for showing what I’ve been working on, finished projects and upcoming markets
it’s great to be able to tag pattern creators as well! Will follow you once you’ve made one
