Hi not really sure what I want to say here but I’m going through grief of a terrible loss and picked my crochet projects back up as a way of coping.
I Don’t recommend over sharing but just curious how others have crocheted or crafted through hard times. Maybe some patterns that are challenging/rewarding/distracting.
Just looking for community and support too I guess. I’m quite a mess but I was wondering where people look for in person crochet groups as well.
Crocheting is definitely something that’s helped me.
I find it helps to distract me from negative or unwanted thoughts. When crocheting, I’m so focused on following the pattern, counting stitches etc that it gives my mind a little break.
I would suggest having a go at pattern testing. It’s very rewarding. Not only are you focused on making the pattern, but you’re also checking the pattern for any possible errors or confusing instructions and relaying that back to the pattern designer.
As for in-person crochet groups, I found one at my local library. Alternatively, there are different groups operating at cafes and other venues. Try searching meetup.com and see what you find.
i’m so sorry for your loss and that you’re going through that!
i suggest maybe looking through social media and see what is being advertised. social media is used as a way to reach a lot of people, and i’m sure you can find something!
When I got I a car accident about 2 months, for a bit I just so tired and sore that I couldn’t crochet, and that like made me rlly sad, I turn to crochet to be distracted from the chaos and like slow down, and take a minute to breath.
Thank you for all your kind words. I appreciate the recommendation. I’m going to try out pattern testing. That’s something I’ve always wanted to try but wasn’t exactly sure how to do it. I’ll check on meet up too.
Thank you for your kind words. I’m sorry to hear about your accident and hope you’re healing well. I know how frustrating that can be when you can’t the things you want to do. I agree keeping yourself busy and doing something engaging is helpful.
I am so sorry, I belive you will get through this and it is awsome that you are using a craft to get through a hard time. You can reach out if you ever want to talk or rant
im sorry that you are going throught this tough time, but I suggest making potted plants. Idk why exactly but with the repetitiveness of the vines and having to keep track of numbers, it keeps your mind distracted. Plus to me it feels good to be able to see what came out of the grief, I see it as something beautiful. Ik others may not see it that way and it can js be a constant reminder of that moment but you should think of it in a glass half full perspective rather than a glass half empty.
