I have to admit- I’m really curious what everyone knows about hannukah/what its about. So does anyone know or what did you hear? (Besides for use jews lol)
Gonna keep it real all I really know is that like an oil lamp ( I think??) was only supposed to last for one night but it lasted like a week so that’s why Hanukkah is like a week long. And you celebrate my lighting the menorah each night representing one of the nights the lamp lit I’m pretty sure
and you exchange gifts. That’s pretty much my understanding idkkk (this isn’t to be offensive , if I totally messed that up I’m so sorry
🫶🏻)
So I from my understanding (I did to Hanukkah a couple times when I was younger with my grandparents) Hanukkah is a Jewish holiday celebrating the time when the Jews only had enough oil to light their candles in the temple for 1 night but the miraculously burned for 8 days ! (I’m so sorry if this is wrong, and I bet there is more to Hanukkah than what I just said but my family isn’t Jewish and my grandparents just thought it would be a fun thing to do when I was little
, and btw I’m a Christian! ) and merry Christmas!
Ummm, so I’m pretty sure Hannukah is celebrated bc of a tale where there was only enough oil to last a little while, but it ended up burning for eight. So each night they light a candle on the menorah, and I’m pretty sure there’s a big one, and they exchange presents or something like that? Ooh- and then they eat, too. I’ve heard of latkes, are those a thing? Potato pancakes? (I THINK this is right, but feel free to correct me, I’m not a Jew!)
Woah u actually know a ton i was not expecting that! Yeah it lasted 8 days so we light the menorah.
Yes we eat foods fried in oil bc of the miracle of oil, and latkes r the BESTTTTT like actually yall should try them
I HEARD OF THE FRYING THINGGGGGGG. (cs)
Thats really cool, everyone knows a lot, but lemme ontroduce u to the dreidel; a spinning too with four sides, and little kids get to play with it and we gamble with chocolate coins hehe
Its bc the Greeks didnt let the jews be jews, so any time they were learning torah etc, theyd pull out the dreidels so the greeks j thought they were playing games. Happy holidays everyone!!
Yeah we also eat donuts bc of that!!!
My son’s coach is Jewish and I work with many kids who are Jewish.
As such, we make sure to teach our kids about the different jewish holidays. We are Christian but I think it is important for them to have learn about other religions as well. They are their own person and need to choose their own beliefs.
Thats rly cool, I really respect that!
… DONUT? (cs)
Yuppppppp! Morrocans and isrealis make cool fried donuts called svinge, my fam makes donuts called sufganiyot, but most ppl j eat jelly and custard
Oh and the kosher cafes around town all come out with crazy flavors like oreo or maple bacon (beef bacon) or styff like that
Ooh, I didn’t know that! I like learning stuff about my friends, cos that means I understand them better, and I feel like it strengthens our bond. So, thanks!
Aww thanks!! Cs
Woaahh, that sounds really fun. What’s the craziest flavor you’ve tried?
Hmmm idk, but maybe an alcoholic one…?
Also do muslims have any holiday holidays like hannukah or stuff like that? Cuz i feel like i know a few, ramadan etc, but thats a fast…
Yeah, we do! The two main big ones are the two Eids, Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha. We have some holiday-like things too, like Laylat Al-Qadr. So basically, we believe that one night in the last ten days of Ramadan is super holy and you get HUGE rewards from praying on that night. (Super condensed explanation, lol) There’s also Muharram, which I personally don’t celebrate since I’m a Sunni Muslim and it’s typically celebrated by Shi’as. Milad un Nabi is the day the Prophet was celebrated (Arabic calendar, not gregorian. Fun fact- my sis was born that day! I was born within a sort fo holy time period or smthn like that? idk.) And there’s more, I’mma stop now cos I’m writing a whole textbook.
