Help please!

I just found a shop on etsy selling my pattern! They stole my photos and edited them! It’s so frustrating to see someone profiting off my hard work. Is anyone familiar with how reporting a shop works on etsy? I have no idea what to do about this. :< Also if this is the wrong place to put this, I apologize!

I also think it might be a good idea for other creators to check their shop in case they stole their pattern as well. I see quite a few of them on there sadly.

Hmm, im not too sure, im pretty sure theres a copyright claim section on etsy you can fill out, and reach out to the person who stole it to ask them to take it down, and if they have profited off it, depending on how much and such. Make sure you have evidence its your pattern, and when you posted it first just so its clear to etsy how first madr the pattern and took the photos

They created a fake story and everything, it’s very sad. I will try my best to report them.

I put the link to both listings on their shop. They stole my pumpkin turtle and chunky pumpkin. I looked closer and they even stole @MapleCreations journal photo from testing it!

I knew there was a way to report but I’ve never had to deal with it before, so I had to go looking

I might reccommend, going forward, develop a Maker’s Mark to brand your photos with. Just an overlay thing, and you can prove it’s your work if they use the photo. Or a code word that’s spelled funny in the pattern that can be searched for.

I’m sorry this happened at all, I see several patterns I’ve looked at on their listings, that’s garbage.

Thank you so much for the advice and help. It really sucks because I just want to share my patterns with people. I am going to try the watermarking like you said and the word thing. When people steal from others and profit off of their hard work and time it really does more harm to the world than they think. The more people who have that mindset and get away with things like this the more that negativity spreads. I am just hoping that this post can maybe shed some light on the issue.

I am so sorry! If there is anything I can do as part of our community to help support you just let me know! Can multiple people post a report on the listing to get more awareness from the people monitoring Etsy listings? maybe if we all post a report indicating it was stolen from the original maker they will take it more seriously. And it might scare this person into not stealing future works from other makers! :triumph:

I am not sure if multiple people can or not, but if you are able to then yes I would really appreciate that! I am afraid to know how many other crochet designers are being stolen from! This is only the first shop Ive found of mine. I really enjoy having my patterns free to share, but it definitely makes it easier to be stolen. :<

unfortunately Etsy isn’t built to be able to report a product that’s been stolen from someone else. The best option should be ‘this is my intellectual property being used without permission’, there’s not one for ‘this pattern was stolen from another maker on X website’

Kind of a sucky shortsightedness, honestly

i’ve seen another shop selling other peoples designs too :sob: the way people can just take patterns and sell them as their own is so disgusting and abhorrent. i’m so sorry this is happening to you:slightly_frowning_face::mending_heart:

I watched a video of @FalseBubbles talking about this subject. It’s frustrating and can definitely make you feel helpless. I will try my best to make it more difficult for people to steal my photos/patterns.

if you select it isn’t in line with policies, then the next screen lets you put in the comments box the reason. The more people that report it the better awareness it will have and result in action taken to remove it and possible make this person think twice before stealing other makers items!
