Help with a pattern

Can someone help me with this :

Work foundation chain of 68 ch + 1 ch (2 lifting loops) in the back loop only in the
3rd stitch from the hook work:

This is for a cardigan and it’s the first step. I have done research and cannot find the answer of what is a lifting loop. Thank you for the help! :)

Hmmm. Maybe they mean loops on the hook?

I think it just means the second chain from hook where you begin the first row of stitches.

Whenever you start a row, you chain 1 and turn, or chain 2 and turn. So, I think the chains would be the lifting loops because it lifts your hook up to the height of the stitch. Maybe. Starting in the 3rd st. would mean there are 2 chains, or lifting loops.
Although, I don’t see your example in the pattern you referenced. Hope it helps you anyway.
