Hydrangea looking sad this year 😒

This was already in the yard when we moved here so don’t blame me :sob: Mother Nature is the only one who takes care of it but i do wonder… should I trim all of those sticks? Or leave it be?

Happy for the new growth though! I need to, if I’m able to, remove all of the dead leaves around/ in it.

That doesn’t look too bad! I have one in my yard and we never prune it and it’s still blooming each summer.

The plant looks great! But you should cut back the dead from last year!

It may not be gorgeous with the sticks but I wouldn’t cut them if I were you. Yay for the new growth tho!!

I’m 50/50 on what to do because for 1. I wanna help it thrive, 2. It’s survived this long without any intervention it seems and lastly, last year it had a lot of blooms on those β€œsticks β€œ and now, nothing.

It’s still early spring so MAYBE there will be a change, but doesn’t seem like it

I’d definitely do more research on what to do before making a decision

We have one, and I don’t know the exact method and cutting process but I know they’re cut back each year…

Me being me, I’d cut off all the dead branches, but the ones really dead, not just inactive…

If the sticks are dead then prune them back but not entirely. If they are alive but not flowering i would still prune them

Yeah, I’ll have to inspect closer to see. I briefly looked at it and noticed some sort of care needs to be done.

I probably shouldn’t give anyone gardening advice lol. I think I have killed more plants than I have grown :sob:

Lol I’m always researching or asking before I do or get anything.

Never too late to learn how to properly care for them :blush:
