I have no idea what I'm doing.

Hi everyone, my name’s Hayley and for a long while I’ve wanted to learn to crochet, but I have only tried maybe a hand full of times. Ive finally kinda made something following along with a YouTube video called ā€œHow to crochet for absolute beginners: part 1ā€ by simplydaisy. In the video she kinda just makes a square, I managed to get the yarn together but one time the square turned into more of a heart and every other time it was a square but very wobbly? I don’t have pics rn but can post some later probably or this weekend if I try again. I was hoping for advice or suggestions on where to start as someone who is completely new. Thanks to you all in advance!

I know every one says this but with crochet it is sooo true! PRACTICE! It took me a whole year to get good at crochet ā€œI also had no one to help meā€ But when I taught my cousin she got good in just a couple months:sparkles: I suggest starting off simple for now with just basic stitches then you can move up to simple projects:yarn: I wish you the best of luck and I cant wait for you to join the :sparkles:crochet community:sparkles:

Thanks, I think I big part of it is I’m just easily discouraged when things aren’t going good, even though I know everything comes with time. I’ll give that video some more tries until hopefully I can get it straight and move onto the next. Tyty for the advice and input!

Definitely agree with Crochetandstaypositive it may take awhile, but just practicing really helps. Checking many other tutorials may also prove helpful as everyone teaches and explains differently. I also recommend using a lighter colored yarn and thicker yarn (not chenille/blanket) just so it’s easier to see the stitches, also make sure to practice good posture and taking breaks as needed!

Good luck on your crochet journey, and never hesitate to ask on Ribblr for any questions you have when crafting!

You probably made you stitch placement a bit weird. Look for the ā€œvā€ s at the top and that’s where you crochet into. Also it’s good to put a stitch marker into every stitch and remove them as you crochet into that stitch. Good luck!

Moogly has videos that take you through every step in crochet.

Best thing you can do is DO IT and do it again! Practice, and google for questions you have.

I mean, I literally typed into google ā€œ why is my crochet wonky?ā€ I learned a lot looking up stuff .
