I’m curious - what crochet hooks do you use?

I started with a cheap set of unbranded hooks from amazon. I then tried a clover amour hook in my most used size and was amazed by the difference. I found it so much smoother to use and I split the yarn a lot less. I am now building up my collection of clover amour hooks but was wondering if these are the best/most popular?

What hooks do you use?

  • Unbranded hooks
  • Clover Amour
  • Tulip Etimo
  • Pony Easy Grip
  • KnitPro Waves
  • Other (let me know in the comments)

So I bought some cheep ones off Amazon, the ergonomic kind. I like them, but the grip would slide off (,I’m an aggressive crocheter :joy: ) but super gluing them solved that problem. Then I realized they had fairly short necks which made some projects difficult.

Now I use these off brand ones but I really like them. The neck is long which I Like and the grip doesn’t slide. Plus so far, no Knicks or grooves on the hook or shaft so yarn doesn’t snag. I’ve had them since last Christmas.

They are so pretty. I guess there is a large range in unbranded hooks. Probably many of them are as good as the branded ones for a fraction of the price.

I looked into Clover hooks and even buying the ones I use most, they’re definitely priced as an investment. I’m glad I bought cheaper ones simply because I may have bent a few with hand strength I never knew I had. So if I bent a more expensive hook, I’d have been pretty upset

They are very expensive compared to other hooks. They are also so easy to lose…

I use Elle Soft Grip hooks 2mm to 7mm - purchased separately. (Elle is one of the main yarn companies here in South Africa.) They all have “Elle blue” grips and are aluminium. I’ve had one that needed replacing but I love how much space there is to work on them compared to other hooks with grips I’ve used, how the grips change size based on hook size and how smooth they generally are to work with

I only had 3 of these and an unbranded set last year when I was looking into Clover Amour, but realised for the price, these local hooks are fantastic.

For knitting I found a set of KnitPro mindful collection interchangeable stainless steel needles on a massive sale. They’re top of the line in my opinion and after purchasing a few more cable lengths, I’m set for most knitting needles :tada:

I have several different hooks I use. My favorites are the clovers but I use 3.5-4.5 hook mostly. Also, most of mine are ergonomic because I like hooks I can grip better. I have a set of clover’s, no names from Amazon, another set of no names red ones off aliexpress. And some random extras of certian sizes.

Metal hooks boye and the smaller sizes I’ve blinged up with silicone beads.
I like having a selection of tools at my disposal because I find after awhile the rubber wears a bit.

I use Furls crochet hooks, streamline metal. They are on the expensive side at $26-$28 per hook, but I find them to be worth it. Although, the weight does take some getting used to, and I had to change my grip from the pencil grip to the knife grip.
