Hot take-consider instead making a pattern for something that you are a fan of, or an original design! Pokemon are popular but there are so many Pokemon patterns out there already.

Remember that you need to have permission from Nintendo to sell a pattern of their characters. I agree with @suettle consider designing your own unique character instead. Happy designing!

Agreed, it’s too risky to me, and I want to see what new things designers can imagine. I understand that we all learn by following patterns and emulating others, but then as a designer it’s important to develop your own style.

Could you explain to me about having to have Nintendos permission to sell patterns of Pokémon? I’m just curious

All pokemon names, characters, balls, symbols… are registered trademarks and unless you have permission from Nintendo to use any of those. You are susceptible to being sued, and prison time. Basically it’s a huge nono. So any patterns not from a Pokémon pattern book with Nintendos permission. The designers can get into huge trouble if they fo not change the names when publishing a pattern with their version of a Pokémon character.

I hope that came across right. My brain isn’t wanting to brain today.

Thank you for that so if I was to make a bird Pokémon pattern I could just call it bird and it would be fine???

Pokemon characters (as well as Disney, Star wars, Marvel etc…) are copyright protected. Which means they own the rights to them and therefore it’s against the law to copy them. The same way it’s against the law to copy a character that you have created.
