Identify this stitch? Designing My Wedding Dress

Right. I think the base is SC, not DC. but it wasn’t working out for me when I tried that either. Also, when I tried it, it came out more square instead of rounded.

I think it will start with single crochets too, I’m working on a little swatch going off the pattern you provided and changing it to match. the one I’m working on is not it but it’s close I’m taking what I’m learning and I’m going to try and make it right!

thanks! good luck. I tried 2 dozen swatches with slight differences and none of them came out right.

Wow there’s a lot of different fan stitches I wasn’t aware of :joy: I found several that sort of look like that stitch the original photo says it’s a fan stitch so I went based on that and found all of these some might not look like it but may perhaps offer insight that could potentially help you, I think the stitch depends on the yarn, hook, and tension so while the videos/blogs may look different from the photo you provided, it could end up looking the same depending on those things

This one uses Spanish crochet terms but they’re pretty easy to understand, if you don’t do the picot at the top I think it’ll look like the photo, if you need help with the terms I can also give them to you as well

I hope these offered some insight, I think posting a photo of the swatches you make will help so I can perhaps see why the pattern you used isn’t coming out quite right we might be able to adjust the pattern you use to help get the look better!

Also something I try to do for newcomers, congrats on your first post  if you ever need help never hesitate to ask in the community, if you need immediate answers feel free to use the help center, search in the community, or the wiki [link below] and community guidelines if needed  Happy crafting! Hope to see your crafts soon as well

The base of the fan is what’s got me hung up. It just doesn’t seem like sc, more of a cluster stitch of some kind. It also seems like the stitches in the middle part of the fan are doubled and tripled up?

That’s what it is it’s like a bobble with only two that cluster is why got me too! Let me try again later because there is two singles next to the cluster

Ok I’ve translated a bunch of diagrams and charts into words in the past including a wedding gown full of pineapples, so I’m going to try my best here.

Looks like you’ve got a bunch of chain 3s. Your fan begins as an sc into a ch3space, then 3sc into this sc, then 2dc into each sc (making 6), then 2dc or fpdc into ea dc (making 12). Then a new set of chain3s start counting from right to left on 1st, 3rd, between 4th and 5th, between 6th and 7th, between 8th and 9th, on 10th and on 12th. The chain 3 coming off 1 and 12 are the bottom chain of the next fans. Then I think all the other chain 3s are connected w more chain 3s and sc and you may have chain 3s coming off the row of 6dcs also to connect between fans.

You are 100% right but there is a single crochet before and after the double fans to decrease the chains in between I tested it and it worked!
