hi guys I don’t know what to say but the other day i was wondering if i could start making a paid pattern but I was scared to do this since i have only 60 followers and you guys might not be trusting me and you guys will not buy them so I decided to make a poll so you guys can decide so guys plz plz be voting on the truth not just voting on any thing
start making paid pattern on 100 followers (and you guys are going to support me )
I don’t think it should really be a never paid or paid at 100 followers option only thing, it’s more what feels right for you when it feels right for you, when you reach that moment on a pattern you go I just don’t feel like I can share this with all the work I put into it for free this is a pattern I feel I should charge something for, so I won’t bot either or all though I am broke so I’d love to say free forever never paid but that’s just a thought I felt I should share rather then voting on the poll
Hi! I would say making paid patterns doesn’t have to do something with followers. I think the more patterns you have in your shop the more followers you‘ll get wether they‘re paid or not. If you make a paid pattern you need to have patience. It can take days, weeks or months to make your first sale. From my view I would love to see more of your free patterns obviously but I think if I were you I would start making paid patterns. Just remember that paid patterns are often more detailed and you put more effort into them. That makes them sell a lot better. Good luck!
NEVER let follower count determine what you are doing! <3 I also had to start from 0, and ofc my patterns are free, but Ribblr has this amazing thing that they don’t have a listing fee, so just posting patterns won’t cost you anything!
I agree with Anna ur followers are here for u no matter if make ur patterns free or paid. I know my followers are mainly ppl who I’ve followed so its a system thing where they followed me back.. I mean I got jokes but thats how I got my peeps..
I personally do not buy patterns granted ive paid for a year subscription to ribblr but yea I generally dont touch it unless its free. But like Anna stated if u design a pattern and u choose to have it be a paid one cuz u just put in so much time and effort that making it free just isn’t something ur willing to do. Its understandable.
Thank you for all your hard work, we appreciate and are thankful for you.
You are not wasting anyone’s time, you asked a question that eople did not have to answer, them answering means that they truly do not think you are a waste of time, you are only who you make of yourself, but if you make yourself a burden, it would not be as good of a person as who you know you are deep down.
Your little items are cute. If you have worked hard to design unique and interesting pieces, people will buy them/the pattern. The idea is to make something new and exciting that we can’t get somewhere else. So think about this while working on your patterns and starting your business. Good luck with it.
I understand the anxiety that comes with the thought of jumping in to start your business. I created mine right around Christmas last year because I wanted to make custom blankets and items for people. I am now trying to build up a stash of completed items other than blankets so that I can get a website/shop started.
honestly i dont buy patterns based on whether i trust the seller. i buy based on the product image. so if youve got done good product images in a nice yarn thats not super frayed, paid patterns might not go so bad.
There’s nothing wrong with making paid patterns, even if nobody will buy them. Nobody buys mine (idk if the follower amount makes a difference ) but I feel like I’d be undermining my work if I made certain patterns free. It doesn’t make you less generous if you make your patterns paid.
Even if nobody buys them, having paid patterns is still rly useful if you wanna do giveaways.
I’m going to be honest, I’ve never bought a pattern off of Ribblr, but I’ve certainly considered it. If you have any social media account I recommend posting your work there to reach a different audience. I also think that Etsy works best for selling patterns (if you’re seriously interested in doing so), but Ribblr can still serve as a sort of personal catalogue and, ofc, giveaway opportunity.
Hope this helped
Edit: Supporting doesn’t necessarily mean purchasing the patterns (as much as any pattern creator would love that). I’ll support you but I don’t think that I’ll purchase any pattern any time soon (as a pattern creator I just write my own pattern for whatever it is that I want lol)
