Internet safety

i know that this is a Christian crafter space but I just want to say that being safe on the internet is extremely important make sure that we are not sharing our age, location I have seen to many people that are sharing things like where they are going for the summer or that they just got saved at X place and I just want to say that this is a predators dream so please be careful out there everyone :two_hearts::latin_cross::heart::crossed_fingers:

good idea

sometimes I tell people the state I live in and my age, but I never considered that. thanks for pointing it out to all the people that might not think about those things!

Absolutely this. It doesn’t matter what kind of group or environment you’re in online. There’s always a chance of a bad actor joining in. No one knows what’s in a person’s mind other than the person themselves. Anyone pushing for more information is not to be trusted.

While I would enjoy meeting my fellow crafters in person, I would not try to prompt for their information to do so. Meeting fellow Ribblr users in person has only been a happy accident for me. So many on here are teenagers/young adults and it’s hard at that age to identify the people grooming them until it’s too late.

Stay safe everyone!

I love that people want to celebrate their birthdays. But saying hey today is my X birthday not only gives your age but your complete date of birth. And posts never go away so someone can see that forever. Try, hey it’s my birthday month intead.. no age and no specific date.

Facts. Also good to remember that just because this is a Christian crafter space we’ve carved out doesn’t mean that only fellow believers can see what we post. Anybody poking around the site could see some of our topics and easily find the youngins, so best to be as careful as possible.

Yes, giving out that information is a predator’s dream. If they are tech savvy they could find you and giving your age and birthday makes it worse. Also be aware that predators will pretend to be around a certain age, depending on who they’re targeting. Be safe out here and don’t give out info that you wouldn’t want to be public. Nothing gets deleted and a forensic digital analyst can make a whole copy of it, fyi.

honestly, my excuses are:

I know how to spot a predator

and

why would a predator choose a CROCHET site?
