This adaption offended me cus it took out all the good songs and Stupid With Love was like a knife twisting in my heart! The Broadway musical is better and thats the truth!

Oh and Angourie Rice shouldn’t have played Cady, she was talk-singing and just, was horrible.

I agree, and didn’t love how they did the movie. I LOVE the musical, and thought the movie was just not good! They changed a LOT about it but it ended up worse, in my opinion.

I’m super late but BELIEVE ME I HAVE NOTES ON THIS MOVIE

  1. I 100% agree with the bit about Angourie Rice. She was an alright actor but her voice sounded so altered and autotuned. Stupid with Love is meant to make you FEEL like you’re a silly teen with her first crush. In the Broadway version it’s bubbly and fun to sing along with (Erica Henningson slayed). The adaptation felt so stagnant and devoid of ANY feeling whatsoever. In the scene where Cady is singing “I’m astounded and nonplussed” she’s literally standing in the courtyard staring and Aaron like​:woman_standing:.
    “Officer? It’s this one right here.”
    And don’t even get me started on those little “doo-doos” in the back!
  2. I liked Auli’i Cravalho as Janice, but I didn’t like the decision to race swap her. I have no issues WHATSOEVER with anyone of Hawaiian heritage (or anyone of a different heritage for that matter). But as a Lebanese myself, I know how rare it is to see anyone of Lebanese heritage in media, let alone a 2000s American comedy. I was so happy to find out Janice (my favorite character) was Lebanese. It just felt unnessasary.
  3. Don’t get me wrong, Renee Rapp did an AWESOME job singing in this movie, but I don’t think anyone could beat Rachel McAdams in an acting stand point. I saw someone say that it felt like she was imitating Rachel McAdams, which I agree with. (It was a losing battle to begin with, McAdams was too iconic to beat).
  4. This is a positive note actually, but I did like the way the movie used TikTok and social media overall in the movie. It felt like a realistic depiction of how rumors spread nowadays.
  5. Also a positive note, but Damian was hilarious (as always).
    Overall, I felt like the whole movie left something to be desired, and next time I’m in a Mean Girls mood, I’m just watching the original.
