Just tryna crochet 🄲

Hello everyone! I have a question does anyone ever get looked at weird when you are crocheting, knitting, reading ect. In public? I keep trying to crochet on the bus to school and children keep STARING at me when I’m just sitting here. :sob:

One of the children in particular, literally stares at me over the seat and asks if I’m tying? What’s tying? And then he asks if I’m knitting? I don’t expect him to know what I’m doing lol but its just annoying

Anyways does anyone have any stories about an experience like that?

Oh and one story that I remember was I was at a doctor appointment and there was this old guy who was sitting next to me and he asked if I was crocheting, I said ā€œyeahā€ and he told me how his wife Crocheted so I sat there and listened to his story and how his wife had recently passed away, and I think I made him happy by letting him remember his wife :sparkling_heart::face_holding_back_tears:

I tend to just ignore the weird looks. I can’t be bothered to care about other’s negative opinions on my interests

Girl I feel ya:heart: Although (this might be weird:sweat_smile:) I kind of like it when people stare at me crocheting or ask me if I’m ā€œknittingā€ lol:joy: it opens a window for me to talk about what I love to do and can sometimes peak interest in other people to try it out for themselves! I had the cutest little girl ask me if I was knitting the other day and I talked to her about crocheting and showed her some pictures of what I’ve done. She had to leave soon after but she told me she wanted to crochet when she was older :face_holding_back_tears: it was so cute!

Lol same. I was sitting in my garden, tryna freehand another plushie, and the creepy wide-eyed neighbour kids just turn up outside, press their faces against the fence and stare at me in plain sight. I askd them if they wanted something and THEY DIDNT EVEN ANSWER they just kept on staring. Whats more, their mom came out and told me to put my needle away, it could hurt her kids (wth-).

I ignored her, but she kept yelling so i went back inside. And also 2 of those kids are 13-15

I was crocheting at my homeschool school a few yrs ago and this little girl came up to me and asked if she could crochet with me! And so she pulled her crochet out of her backpack and we crocheted together!! And she was only 6 yrs old :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

How would a crochet hook or a knitting needle hurt kids through a fence?! :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I’ve honestly been crocheting in public and people who know me sometimes call me ā€œthe yarn girlā€ because I bring projects and like whole things of yarn to do something when i’m free. It’s funny but i mean the whole point of having yarn on me is so i have something to do other then work and drawing/games.

Hii, normally when people stares at you while you are crocheting/knitting is because they find it interesting! When i crochet in the street, i feel like a magnet to grandmas, they always smile at me and i really love that. And when kids come to ask things its because they are curious, not bc they are judging or something:heart_hands:t3:

Wait how do you have a homeschool school

I get asked a lot about it by adults and kids. I just take the time to teach and give simple answers. I never want to discourage anyone from learning something new or sparking inspiration. Usually they just want to know what I’m making and that’s that. The moment we shun people for asking questions we lose culture. People watch YouTube videos of people crocheting you/me just happen to be live in person so ā€œstaringā€ will happen.

You could poke out an eye. I mean, anything can be used as a defensive weapon. Knitting needles would be better, imo.
