Hi everyone! Question for you. I’m a bit weird when it comes to crochet and knitting. I’m full-on left-handed! These are pretty much the only 2 things in life I’ve had to do as a lefty. Does anyone else share this awesomeness? I also would like to know the thoughts/feelings of getting a pattern from a lefty if you don’t mind. Being self taught I haven’t really found any issues at all and I’m just use to seeing patterns and pics right handed. Pretty much just a mirror image of a righty except having to work left to right for the most part. I’m just getting into the pattern market and curious to know if my patterns would be a HARD NO for some considering any explanation with pictures shows my south paw awesomeness!!
I don’t think so! I’m right handed and I can’t do ANYTHING with my left hand, lol. She’s like assistant for the right one. @WalktoCrochet and @LexaLovelyCrafts make patterns for both right and left handed! And also @aeryneso tries both :)
I’m left-handed and I crochet. I’ve never had any problems with patterns that are mostly right-handed, so I don’t think it’s a problem. Don’t worry about it with right-handed people.
(sorry for my terrible English)
I crochet with my left hand, but I flip my images since most crocheters are right handed
thanks for the tag sasha!!
i would say RH people should get used to flipping images, lol, but it seems that several LH designers (lexa - LexaLovelyCrafts and jenni - WalktoCrochet) simply flip their images and videos :] jenni has a cool thing in her patterns where in the “sizes” slot, you can choose either RH or LH, and then the videos are in your correct orientation!! it’s super awesome <33
You guys are used to flipping images. I think if I were looking at a pattern that was made left handed, it should be announced before purchase. Just my thought.
Ok thanks for who all have responded so far. I do state I am left handed if I need pictures so it isn’t sprung on someone but honestly didn’t think it necessary because patterns don’t specifically tell you to use your right or left hand because you’re going through the exact same motions either way. I would like to know how to incorporate the flipping part in the pattern though so it can be interchangeable/customized for those who feel it’s a concern. I need to track Jenni down lol
I’m the same !!! Im left handed but i knit and crochet with my right !!! I dont remember it feeling weird when I started though if anything holding a crochet hook in my left hand feels weird
Hi. I’m here- I’m Jenni.
Flipping images are easy as Ribbuild has a built in flip option when you are attaching a picture in a pattern.
Fliping videos take more effort. I use Canva to flip my videos. I only have the free version of Canva, so the effort is just the time it takes.
I like providing both options in my patterns using the sizing feature. Check out my free chicken pattern to see what I mean.
If you want to know how I use the sizing feature to offer two options (it’s built to offer 3+ options, but I discovered how to jerryrig it for two options), just let me know, and I’ll walk you through it.
It’s kinda funny, I mentioned to my husband that someone asked a lefty question and people mentioned me in the comments, and he said, “Yep. Someone said lefty 3 times and summoned you.”
I love helping fellow Lefty’s.
I’m right handed
Right!!! (No pun intended) Lol…I started to crochet and knit with my right for about a month. Finally I sat down to watch videos of different ways to hold the yarn assuming I was right handed. I stumbled on a lefty and decided I would try it. BOOM!! It felt like I was a couple years into these crafts lol so weird.
Lol it was a necessary summon. Thank you for your help and YES PLEASE help me on the sizing feature! That would be very much appreciated
I’m left handed too!!
Ok. Here is Ribblr’s general tutorial on how to use the sizing feature.
It states it can only be used for 3+ sizes, but I found how to make it work for just 2 sizes. I explained it in this thread. Let me know if anything is unclear, or if you need any other help or advice.
I agree that if a pattern’s photos are oriented for left handed makers it should be said up front (might actually be a plus to say so, more might buy it if they knew that up front)
The same thing for if the pattern is a chart only. A bunch of people don’t do charts and would be disappointed if they bought it and didn’t know it was only in chart format
