Chosen Pattern:
The mini goals established in this graphic are very flexible - do what you can when you have the time! I made these little goals as check-ins for people who prefer a bit more structure and to help keep people accountable and motivated! The most important rule is to have fun and connect with your fellow crafters! If the pattern you were keen on didn’t get selected, have no fear as I am hopeful we can revisit these CALs routinely with different projects throughout the year!
March 3rd-9th: Yarn Selection. This first week people are invited to gather their materials, including the pattern, and share which yarn/colors they will be using for their pillow!
March 10th - 16th: Star Panel #1. We will begin physically working on the pattern and making our first of two pillow panels.
March 17th - 23: Star Panel #2. We will continue working the pattern, starting with our second star panel.
March 24th - March 30th: Stuff and Seam. This week will be dedicated to shaping and closing off our pillows, getting them ready for prime time.
March 31st: Show and tell! Share a final pic of your project and feel free to talk about your experience with this pattern (and the CAL in general) !
Excited to create with you all this month!
original interest check
Would anyone be interested in a crochet and/or knit along next month?
For those who don’t know a CAL (crochet-along) or KAL (knit-along) is basically when a group of crafters work on the same project over a designated period of time.
I was thinking we could choose a free pattern from Ribblr and spend the month working on the same pattern together, sharing progress/wips, encouraging one another, talking through any potential hiccups/our yarn, etc., as a way to build community and just work on a larger type of project as a group since larger projects are often easier when others help motivate us (and seem to be less daunting with others working alongside us). I think it would be a great way to support designers, too.
My idea was that everyone could make suggestions on which patterns from Ribblr to use, then I could compile them into a poll and we could vote on the one we want to try. Once the pattern is established we would then come together and people can either share at random as they work through the pattern or I can come up with pattern-specific prompts/goals and we check in weekly. For bonus fun, I’ll gift participants a pattern from their wishlist for joining in during the month.
For this particular event, I’m thinking a wearable or home goods item might be our best bet since they tend to take a little longer than stuffies/amigurumi, but I’m open to any suggestions.
If anyone would be interested, let me know and if so, please tell me if you’d take part in a crochet-specific version, a knit-specific version, or if you’re open to either a crochet or knit version. And if you’re especially eager, feel free to drop any pattern suggestions you may have
