Memorable market experiences

I hope you guys are all good. I was wondering if anyone had any market “horror” stories or any memorable market experiences they’d like to share? Here’s my story(and guys it was low key traumatic at the time:sob:)

So it was a while ago and it was my first market. The market I was going to was run by a near by pub and it was quite small so I thought it would be perfect for a first market because it wouldn’t be too overwhelming. Anyways we get there and I set up my table and everything and I was super excited. One of the things that I had crocheted was this little orange cat. And I had said to my family that if no one buys this cat I am keeping it ( I don’t often get attached to the things I crochet). Hours go by and the market was absolutely empty. It was really depressing. Finally the one single person that actually showed up to the market walked past my stand. This person and their friend had a dog and they were busy looking at all of my stuff. The one guy said “what do you think?” and I thought that he was talking to his friend or something but oh my gosh was I wrong . After a while he picks up the orange cat and asked if he can buy it. I was really excited but kind of sad to part with the cat. So he bought the cat and as soon as he gave me the money bro GAVE THE CAT TO HIS DOG!!! turns out when he said “what do you think” I failed to notice he was looking and talking to his dog! So I was just standing there watching my hard work being sacrificed to this dog and if that dog is anything like mine that cat won’t last 10 minutes. And this guy didn’t even seem to notice how criminal it is to buy a HAND CRAFTED piece of hard work for your dog to rip it to shreds in a few seconds. My jaw had literally dropped to the ground like a cartoon character while I watched this guy and his dog walk away. After that I told my family that we should just pack up and go home( it started to rain as well which really added to the mood)

so ya that’s my market story please excuse my horrible grammar it’s been a long day. Also feel free to tell more light hearted stories :)

WHAT NOO THATS SO AWFUL:sob::sob:

I HOPE THAT KITTY IS OK ToT

This isn’t really a “horror” type of market experience. It was pretty embarrassing, but I remember a few months back, there was this woman and man, I’m guessing they were eachother’s spouse, and they had apparently recognized my mom and dad there (they were sitting at the booth with me) and had decided to come up and say hi. After a while of them talking, the man looks at me and asks something. I can’t even remember what it was he said, but I could’ve sworn he was talking to me since he was staring directly into my eyes. I answered him, and he actually actually looks at me and says “Oh, sorry. I was talking to the lady behind you” and my heart dropped, and my face had seriously flushed red in embarrassment. BUT HE WAS STARING DIRECTLY AT ME. I WAS SO CONFUSED. But it’s hard to forget about it lol.

My favorite booth was at a park with a lot of people around. We had a heavy antique money till that would ding when the drawer was opened. It rang constantly. We sold a lot of stuff that day. So fun.

NAHHH THAT’S TERRIBLE :sob: :sob: poor little kibby
I luckily don’t rlly have any market horror stories, but something funny that happened at my last market is I got paid a jar of pickles for one of my crochet plushies… so there was a little girl at a pickle booth next to us, and I had a little red panda plush that she liked. She said wasn’t allowed to get it, but with it being the same price as the pickles they were selling, she said “we could trade” in her innocent little voice, and me being bad at saying no umm nice, said “sure if your mom’s okay with it”.
I saw her walk away and try to persuade her mom into doing the trade (which I honestly didn’t even want to do, much rather have my twelve bucks than a jar of pickles), her mom definitely didn’t want to do it and said no.
But then later the young little business girl came back and was now trying to get us to buy a jar of pickles from them. We never agreed to anything but to she just bagged up a jar of pickles, brought it to our booth and told us we were buying it. My mom didn’t need to be paying for some gourmet pickles that we really didn’t need, but it was also really hard to say no to the little girl lol, her mom realized she was pressuring us into to buying the pickles, and just gave up and said she could do the trade, so she got her red panda and I got a jar of pickles lol :woman_shrugging:

I actually had a really disappointing market today!

So it was a Christmas market, which I thought would be great for me. It was a $40 booth fee(a bit on the higher end for me personally), but I was sure that I could easily make that back and have the market be worth it, considering that there were going to be about 75 vendors. I did this market with my sister, who does cards.

Sooo, it was on a Friday (today) and I’m homeschooled, so that’s why I was able to do it, and I knew that there wouldn’t really be any kids, but turns out that basically 95% of the people who come are retired seniors. Notttt exactly my target audience……..

And it ended up being my worst market since last summer. I had a total of fewer than 15 items sell, most of which were keychains or $5 items.

Great.

My sister ended up doing really well, though, because she’s pretty young and everyone was super impressed with what she did.

So kinda a flop. But I’m hoping for better results at my other Christmas markets!!

I’ve never done a market, but around Halloween went to an event with a kids market. I was admiring someone’s crochet, and my mom walked up and said the dreaded “she can make all this at home she’s really good” I was so caught off guard I just bought a bookmark and left. I feel so bad about it

I hope so because I used safety eyes for it and I was too flabbergasted to warn the guy about them

Ohh noooo!! Poor kitty. I have a sort of embarrassing story, so I was at my market, it was nearing the end and I was losing energy, so a woman comes to buy something for 5 dollars, and since I was so tired I thought it was 4. She gave me the 5 dollar bill and I gave her a dollar, she started laughing and saying No this is yours, but I’ll take it if you don’t want it!

I should’ve apologized :sob: i’m just so bad at social situations. I’m always so impressed by everyone doing markets at that age and was really just admiring her hard work.

Honestly I’d just be too embarrassed to say anything in that situation :sob:

I personally haven’t had a market yet but one of my friends has had a few and she was telling me about her WORST market a few weeks ago.

So basically I think it was her 3rd market ( btw she sells like clay sculptures as well) and she didn’t get anyone for like an hour so she was just like crocheting or something and then a guy came with his dog and like girlfriend or something and they were looking and the guy had picked up one of her clay things and it was one that took a REALLY RELALY REALLY long time like 15 hours or so idk and it was like 50 dollars it was really cool and detailed it was a dragon btw and he was showing it to his girlfriend and the dog jumped up and knocked it out of his hands and it hit the table really hard and it broke and also broke another smaller clay cat and the guy refused to pay for it :face_with_diagonal_mouth:
