vPatterns are now available to import into your library
We are rolling out improvements to make it easier to keep your entire pattern and tutorial collection in My Stuff. Starting today, Ribblr+ members can turn YouTube video tutorials into ePatterns (vPatterns) - up to 5 per month on Gold and 20 per month on Platinum.
How it works:
Copy the link to any YouTube tutorial
Paste it into the import box
Wait a couple of minutes and your vPattern will be ready in your library
Weāve heard that feedback a lot, thatās exactly why we want to make it easier for Ribblr+ members who help support the platform to be able to have all their patterns and tutorials (as well as journals) in one place. Watch this space!
This is awesome Iāve got a gazillion YouTube pattern videos saved on YouTube. Im still trying to figure out how to upload my pdf patterns to my library. Anybody have a quick, easy explanation of how to do it or if I can do it lol
Iām a pattern designer and Iām a little confused about this. I sell my patterns but I do YouTube tutorials for each pattern that is available via public YouTube tutorial. The tutorial doesnāt include all the info that is included in my written pattern available for purchase. The video tutorial is meant to be used with the paid written pattern. I work very hard on my patterns and pay for tech editing, etc. This concerns me because if Ribblr takes one of my YouTube video tutorials and turns it into a pattern, how is that beneficial to the designer? Additionally, the pattern wonāt be a complete pattern if youāre just going based off a video tutorial, creating mistakes and making it look like I write patterns riddled with errors. I love Ribblr but this is very concerning to me.
vPatterns have been available here for a few months now, and this update makes them available for Ribblr+ members to keep in their library.
The purpose is to make it easier to follow video tutorials, in a format you know and love - Ribblr ePattern.
What we do:
We embed your existing YouTube tutorial inside a Ribblr pattern (only if you allow embedding on YouTube).
We break your video captions into step by step lines so makers can follow more easily.
Viewers still watch your original YouTube video, so it stays monetized and counts toward your views allowing you to gain even more exposure and earn more!
I do the same, but if itās a paid pattern, the tutorial is unlisted, only accessible to those with the link.
This is more for complete patterns on YouTube, for us to work on, while using the benefits of Ribblr. So, each person, like me, would only do this with a pattern for my own use. Not for sale.
I just tested it for one of my patterns and tutorials and I think the language used in the announcement and this response is what confused me. When I see Ribblr state:
āRibblr+ members can turn YouTube video tutorials into ePatternsā and that
āWe break your video captions into step by step linesā
- These statements made me think Ribblr is taking a YouTube tutorial and putting into the ePattern (written) format (see Pic A below). In other words, it made me think that Ribblr would take a YouTube tutorial and recreate my written ePattern (as seen in Pic A below) that I already offer for sale on Ribblr.
I see that is not currently the case as I tested the vPattern import with the YouTube Tutorial video I have for the same hat (as seen below in Pic B).
I think the use of āpatternā in āvPatternā is confusing. As a designer, āpatternā means a written pattern like in this format: (see Picture A)
I see that Ribblrās āvPatternā is the format as seen Picture B, which is not a āpatternā but rather, bookmarked segments in the video.
When you all said you were taking the captions and turning them into step by step lines, this also made me think you would be taking the CC (or subtitles) and turning them into the format as seen in Pic A above.
However, is there any way for Ribblr to make a designation or for a user to be notified that would allow them to see that the written ePattern is available for purchase on Ribblr when they import this video tutorial? I put it in my YouTube video tutorial descriptions, but I think it would be a great way to help designers who sell their patterns on Ribblr.
I believe we do add the description into the āintroā part - but weāll log that feedback for future improvements because there could be more ways to do so!
