During Bible Study today, the pastor talked a little bit about how Noah is probably the most misunderstood person in the whole Bible.
Right after he got off the ark, he planted a vineyard, drank some of its wine, got drunk, and became naked. (Genesis 9:20-21) Then his youngest son, Ham, saw Noah naked and told his brothers to go outside. (Genesis 9:22) Noah then cursed Ham. (Genesis 9:25)
When I 1st read this passage, I was really confused at why Noah did this, but now I know.
In the Bible, Jesus uses the vineyard as a symbol of the Kingdom of God. So Noah was sort of planting the Kingdom of God when he planted the vineyard. But then he got drunk and naked. It was because he was washing his clothes in the wine. Genesis 49:11 NIV
He will tether his donkey to a vine, his colt to the choicest branch; he will wash his garments in wine, his robes in the blood of grapes.
(This was Jacob blessing Judah)
Noah was, in a way, taking off his dirty rags and cleaning them in the blood of Jesus.
This is what sanctification is. Right afer Noah was saved from the flood, he immediately planted the vineyard. We should also immediately start planting the Kingdom of God after our salvation. Then he started washing his garments. Ephesians 4:22 NIV
You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;
This symbolizes our sanctification. After he was saved, Noah immediately started his on path of sanctification, and we should as well.
Ham was cursed because he didn’t understand. I didn’t when I first read this passage. I was really confused at why Noah did this. But it all clicked when the pastor explained it. There are probably lots of other misunderstood people like Noah in the Bible. We should ask the Holy Spirit to let us understand the Bible because that’s the only way.
Hope you have a blessed day/night!
This is interesting! My family understand a different way though, but I really hope this post doesn’t get flagged because I love your posts about the bible!
thats so cool!! maybe i’ll start sharing things my pastor says!!
Please do!
This is an interesting take on this. We are so much like Ham so often in our lives. I would love to hear your pastor to a Bible study just on his perspective of Ham and then his brothers. I haven’t looked at Noah in this perspective before. I will definitely have to read more about it. Thanks for sharing.
This is really cool! I’ve read that story so many times and never thought of it that way
. thanks for sharing this perspective!
I’ve never understood it that way before! That makes so much sense! Thank you so so much for sharing!!!
Interesting perspective. The passage concerning Ham has puzzled Scholars for a long time.
After investigating and much prayer asking God to help me understand it I found out what is really going on here.
It’s explicit, and had far reaching consequences, and also explains why Canaan was cursed seeing that it was a result of an unlawful union.
Shouldn’t get flagged, it’s on the appropriate space.
