Hello lovely ribbot army!! While ive been crocheting recently ive been getting such bad pain in my hand (see highlighted image on where) from just holding the project. I also get it a little bit in my middle finger in the same spots but the photo doesnt show that. Does anyone else get that?? How can i alleviate it??

Have you tried stretching your hands before and after?

I get that too! Only when I crochet for like a bunch of days in a row and I’m nonstop crocheting. Usually what I do is (I know how horrible this sounds) is I don’t crochet for a while :scream::exploding_head::worried: it is HORRIBLE and I am alwase so happy to start crocheting again but it just helps me so much so that I’m not in pain. I will usually stop for 4-6 days or so and I’m good by then. But sometimes you can’t do that when you have orders or testers that need to get done

hmmm do you have a tight grip on the project? My hand does this sometimes when I’m gripping it hard or crocheting too long. Maybe that’s why. And if that doesn’t help, I’d try compression gloves

It helps me to hold the body of the project between my pinkie and ring finger when possible bc it doesn’t scrunch up my hand as much

I get like a pain from the yarn rubbing on me for too long like a rug burn and taking a brake helps a lot

I hold my yarn like that and I get that pain to but barely maybe it’s from the yarn I use (bernat blanket) then when I use jumbo yarn my ring finger hurts bad. If it hurts too much then maybe try this stretch

Idk if it will help.

Do you happen to have hEDS or hypermobile joints, if so have you looked into ring splints specifically for hyper mobility in finger and hands like the silver ring splint company, if insurance doesn’t cover them lots of people make and sell their own on Etsy for more affordable prices

I mention hyper mobility because it definitely looks like your index finger is hypermobile in both the DIP and PIP joints

Ring splits and wrist support/compression gloves for the win! They make a big difference for me. I still have to take painkillers if I crochet for a long time but they do help a lot and ofcourse stretching is important.

I found that a finger splint helps. Oh, and taking a break for a few days.

I’m not sure how to help, but I will do my best. I’ve seen a lot of things online about DIY ergonomic hooks by like sticking your hook through a tennis ball or beauty blender. I have heard a lot of good things about doing that, although I haven’t tried it myself.
I also get that pain and sometimes it causes my hand to cramp up so bad to where it locks in place and I can’t move it. I have to use my other hand to manually move my fingers when that happens. Really the only thing that helps with that, at least for me, is just taking more frequent breaks and stretching not just the hand but the whole arm and shoulders. It’s all connected so…?
Sorry if this wasn’t any help, but I hope you find a way to relieve the pain!

yes…. i get that too. you need to stretch your hands before and after your crochet sesh then you might want to consider holding your hook steak knife style instead of pencil.

I probably am honestly. I may buy some compression gloves when I have more money.

I might. I know a few of my joints are hypermobile but right now we have no definitive answers. Writing also causes me pain but in the other hand because my top joint on my pointer finger hyperextends so much

I would totally get them. I get pain like this when knitting and I notice my grip on the needles are really tight. I haven’t gotten compression gloves yet, but I would get them

Maybe take a break from crocheting every 30min to 1hr?

They’re ridiculously expensive when you buy the compression gloves in the craft section! $15-20!
