So I was bored and signed up for a pen pal website called penpal.me and it’s awesome and i love it but what should i write on my postcard? Anyone with pen pals here that has ever written a letter pls gimme some ideas bc i have no clue what to write and its kinda awkward bc im gonna be like
“Um hi I like crocheting hbu?”
Well anyways enjoy penpaling if u have it and if u dont u should do it!
I love writing my penpal! I write my friend who moved away after 6th grade, and my cousin. Just ask them about their lives, what grade they’re in, any pets? All they get to know you questions today favorite color, etc…
I’ve been writing to pen pals for almost 40 years now (god, that makes me feel old! ), and if you are sending a postcard, I suggest adding a very small return address label off to one side, so they can reply if desired. Then talk a bit about what the postcard is (for example if it’s crochet related, tell them about what you love about your hobby, how you got into it, etc) ~ if it’s your hometown, a bit of interesting tidbits is fun, etc. If it’s fairly generic, then you can start with a few fun facts about yourself, e.g. I’m an Amigurumi artist, I can sign my name with my left foot, etc. PCs are fun, but they are small, so keep it condensed. If you want a reply, a return label is definitely the way to go, but if you don’t mind no reply, then just add a few things and then doodle or put some stickers on the edges. Or leave them bare. Most PC collectors want the card for the image, and aren’t bothered too much by the written content on the back
I hope you find pen palling enjoyable! It’s been a favourite hobby of mine for the majority of my life (first pen pal letter was at age 6 or 7, iirc)
That’s so cool and ty for the ideas!!!
Most welcome! Feel free to ask if you need any more ideas
i’ve written lots of letters before, and i usually ask a lot of basic questions, like what’s their favorite color, food, hobby, season, day of the week, music genre, book/series, movie/show, what’s on their bucket list, that sort of thing! it gets the conversation going and you learn interesting stuff about them :3
i have a pen pal, but we mostly email. she’s really sweet! we sent each other some physical mail a few months ago. i gave her a little care package and a letter explaining why i sent what i did. she sent me some really cool post cards written in her language with the translations and even drew us together
