This is the 11th poetry comp, and recently I have had a lot of ppl asking to join (ofc I’ve been letting them) so I was wondering if I should make a separate post for that!

I Guess I Don't Know How To Say Goodbye
Last week we were laughing like we always do
I never thought about saying goodbye to you
I knew your situation wasn’t getting any better
Your mood changed more than the weather
Why did you have to take another sip
All those pills that you slipped
I thought you’d fix it up like you always did
I somehow knew that you were close to your end
We went to Timmy’s wedding, laughing all night
We almost forgot about our silly little fight
I don’t know how many times I said to stop
But you’d grab another glass and take another shot
Thursday morning I got the call
That morning changed it all
I couldn’t end up getting on that plane
Everyone thinks I’m insane
I never went to Madison even though I tried
I guess I just didn’t know how to say goodbye

It was just a nightmare,
When your hand slipped from mine,
When I reached out,
And darkness cloaked my arm.
Like an icky sticky glue.
Dripping droplets onto the floor.
Splat, splat, splat.
I turned, with a shriek,
To where glowing red eyes met me,
And the light was long gone in this place.
I scrambled back,
Hoping it wouldn’t attack.
But when I looked back,
There was no longer a trace.
I peered through the shadows,
Scared I’d catch a glimpse of its face.
My heart was thundering,
Ramming my chest.
And I ran through the dark,
And couldn’t quite rest.
Those eyes glowed in my head.
I stumbled and tripped,
The coating of black,
Dripped and it sticked,
And those eyes,
There they came,
Ruby and rosy,
Those eyes there it creeped,
Huffing and growling,
And its teeth it did bare,
Were white with a shine,
And the drool down its chin,
Made me shudder and cry.
And it paced, yes it did,
Back and forth in a line,
As if he said,
“Hurry up, I got no time”
So I lowered my head,
Ready to quit,
And escape was no longer,
A sort of possibility for this.
But then he sat like a dog,
And I trembled and looked.
His eyes looked to mine,
And that’s when I knew,
I recognized those eyes.
And the feeling they brought.
“I miss you.” I whispered.
And he seemed to nod.

I wake in the morning,
Dreading the day.
The day that crushes my soul,
Crushes me,
Making it hard to breathe;
Hard to function.
Somehow, I make it through the day,
But I’m no longer me.
I’m a shell,
Devoid of all personality.
There, but not truly.
But then,
I see you.
I see your smile,
I hear your laugh.
It lights up the room.
That’s when I realize,
That it was just a nightmare.

The clouds were gray and lonely
The moon was large and black
Monsters loomed before me
Claws ready to attack
I closed my eyes tightly
Hoping they went away
My cries were silent as a snake
Creeping on its prey
Leave me alone!
I shouted into the night
Leave me be!
I cried with peerless fright
As they came closer
I covered my eyes with fear
I inched slowly backwards
As they crawled near
I hit a wall behind me
There was nothing left to do
These monsters didn’t scare me!
I was done, through and through
This time, when I closed my eyes
I woke up in my bed
No monsters were around
Was it all in my head?
As time passed, it came to me
The monsters that gave me a scare
I laughed at the absurdity
That was just a nightmare
