Anyways, Iโm on vacations right now and I passed through Italy on my way there, where I met with Lucky, we went to a mall normal guypal activities dw and they had these HUUUGE plant islands with philodendrons and schefflera, namely Philodendron โImperial Redโ, Thaumatophyllum bipinnatifidum, Schefflera arboricola, Nephrolepsis sp., plus some others I didnt recognize 
And yes I forgot to take pics 
Anyways the imperial reds are the focus of this post. The plant is supposed to look like this

And one of the many philodendrons, started putting out leaves like this

See the difference? The leaves shouldnโt have that marbled look, and thatโs called variegation, when the plant doesnโt make chlorophyll in parts of it. That can double or triple a plantโs priceโฆ So I did the most logical thing and cut off the growth tip 
its an Aroid, they make new growth tips if pruned, so the mother plant will survive relatively unscathed

HOW BOTS AND LUCKY TOOK A PLANT FROM A MALL
Once upon a time, August 9th to be precise, Bots and his mother had to go grocery shopping. Since Lucky lived nearby, he joined them on their dangerous quest to retrieve the cookies and pasta that mom wasnโt a fan of buying but I threw it in the cart anyways.
When Bots and his mother arrived to the mall, disaster struck; the parking height limit was 2,30 m, but they had bikes on the car roofโฆ Now the logical thing is to just saw off the height limit sign and drive in anyways, but they were up for the challenge we drove around that mall like 5 times in search of another parking lot and when they finally found a non-height restricted parking lot, it was already hot outside and the lot had no shade 
They then proceeded to get ready for the dangerous quest of grocery shopping, they stocked up on loot bags and water bottles, and made their way into the dungeon that is an underground garage which held the elevator to the top floors.
And then, disaster struck, the guardian of the mall appeared

And it was just lucky, heโs pocket sized, we abducted him and went on
They reached the core of the mall, where we descended to the lower floors, swarming with people, and we fought our way to Esselunga, to retrieve the holy cookies.
They were tempted by cantaloupe and almost took it but checked the price and it says it was a pumpkinโฆ Mimics these daysโฆ Then we found the cookies and HOLY PASTA AISLE 
, then we met Luckyโs mother and proceeded to fight our way back to the car.
And then the other side of the arrangements, I see the beauty.
That was a must have and cultivate and hope itโs a stable sport so I can name it whatever I want and it would be official and 
So then Bots and Lucky sat down besides the plant and contemplated their options. As Lucky reassured Bots that the Italian simply judge and not intervene, he grew bolderโฆ By a tiny bitโฆ So he jokingly asked Lucky for a knife which he didnโt posessโฆ So the guy stands up. He went to the nearest restaurant. Asked for a knife to cut a plant. They sent him to the manager. The manager gave him scissors saying itโll be easierโ
. So then bots snipped it, bagged it and fled.
Bots and his mother made a wonderful escape with the plant piece, and are now taking refuge in another country, safe and sound
Itโs in water now, Iโm hoping to root it, and it has mealybugs
So daily drowning and hosing for the bloke
He hopefully decides to root and prove the variegation stable. Itโll probably be a year or two of taking care of him before I can take stem cuttings to propagate, then again, again, for 2-3 generations to prove the mutation stable, then I can register it at the world aroid society as a Philodendron cultivar.
Variegated imperial reds do exist already, but that variegation is sectoral rather than marbled, and this one is a spontaneous mutation on a non-variegated mother plant, making it unique and unrelated to the other variegated one.
