PSA - a reminder of community guidelines ✅

Hi all :waving_hand:

Following a few recent discussions and concerns brought to our attention, we feel this is a good time for a reminder about our Community Guidelines. (click to read them)

Ribblr is a platform dedicated to crafts and crafters. Everyone is welcome here, whether you have been crafting for years or are only just getting started, as long as you are respectful and follow our policies :purple_heart:

Celebrating our community

It is important to remember just how positive and supportive this community is, and that is thanks to all of us!

In a world where online spaces can quickly become divisive or unpleasant, we have built a fun and safe place for crafters to connect, share and celebrate one another.

It is rare. And it is worth celebrating. And it is also something we all need to protect.

A little perspective

Trends can be fun, but can also get overwhelming quickly.
Before joining one, please consider whether your post adds something new or positive to the wider conversation and how it may affect others.

It can sometimes feel as though trends represent the whole community, especially when the same topics repeatedly appear on your feed.

However, that is usually not the case. Here are the five most active spaces based on recent topics incl. last few days:

Space Percentage of topics
General 24.9%
Testing Zone 24.8%
Crochet :yarn: 22.0%
Teen Crafters 6.0%
Support :hand_with_fingers_splayed: 5.7%

Help us keep Ribblr tidy and welcoming

Casual conversations belong in chat
We welcome casual conversations, especially during the summer when more people are on holiday or taking a break from school or college.

However, these conversations should take place in General chat. We also have Craft talk for craft-only conversations.

Keep topics focused and correctly organised
Outside of Personal spaces :bust_in_silhouette:, community topics should remain focused on crafts and encourage meaningful discussion.

This can include sharing a project, asking for advice, posting a tester call or promoting a new pattern, as long as it follows our self-promotion rules.

Before posting, please select the correct space and relevant tags. Games, memes and other fun posts are welcome when they follow our guidelines and are placed in the appropriate space. This helps others control their feed.

Flag violations
If you believe a post may violate our guidelines, please do not argue with or interact with it. Check the guidelines first to make sure, then flag it for our team to review.

It’s important to note - flags are for potential violations, not simply for content you personally do not wish to see. (For that please refer to You control what you see below)

Our Regulars and Leaders also have additional tools to help organise the community. They are here to help and are always doing their best (shoutout and a big thank you!). If you disagree with an action they have taken, please contact our team directly.

You control what you see

You are always in control of your own community experience.

You can join or leave chats at any time by tapping the chat name and selecting Leave channel. You can also turn chat off completely through your community profile settings.

You can also hide topics.
Every topic has a bell icon that allows you to watch (get notified) or mute it (hide it).
You can also go to Preferences* followed by Tracking, to mute entire spaces or tags that you do not want to see on your feed.

Lastly, your email and notification preferences can be changed under Emails and Notifications.

We constantly improve this based on your feedback. For example, we recently added the test-closed tag after many of you told us that you did not want closed pattern tests appearing on your feed.

A final note from us

Our team is made up of crafters who, just like you, want Ribblr to be a fun, welcoming and safe place.

We are always listening and looking for ways to improve the experience, by being engaged with you all. We hope this is evident from the last 6 years of building this together :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

With that in mind, finding the right balance between allowing people to express themselves and consistently enforcing our policies is not always easy, and we will not get every decision perfect.

We take violations of our rules seriously. Depending on the severity of the action, we reserve the right to silence or suspend an account without prior warning. Thankfully, this is rarely necessary.

Please take a moment to remind yourself of our Community Guidelines before continuing to participate.

Thank you for helping us keep Ribblr welcoming, positive and craft focused for everyone!
