Ribblr of the Week - Meet Elliyah! 💜

Say hello to Elliyah @devouthand - our new Ribblr of the Week and the designer behind devout hand

Welcome back! We got to chat with @devouthand a few years ago which can be found here but this week we are catching up!

How has your crafting journey evolved since we last chatted? Any new discoveries or shifts in your style?
I feel I’ve become more confident in my style, and I’ve been making more items that I’d actually wear myself which has been fun. I’ve also learned how to knit, and having a variety of crafting options really helps decide which particular one is best for a certain design.

Is there a craft or technique you’ve recently tried (or want to try) that’s outside your usual comfort zone? How did it go or what’s holding you back?
Controversial but… machine knitting! I was lucky enough to be gifted a knitting machine a few weeks ago, and I’ve been experimenting a little here and there – it’s definitely outside of my comfort zone as it requires way more calculations and math than I’d say I’m comfortable with, plus working with machinery isn’t something that comes natural to me. But, surprisingly, it’s been really fun so far, so I’m exciting to keep on learning, and hopefully eventually write my own machine knitting patterns.

What’s one design or make that totally surprised you, either in how it turned out, how it was received, or how it challenged you?
Probably my Star bag! It was really fun focusing on making a completely beginner-friendly pattern again, and I’m happy to hear that beginner crocheters could actually make it with ease.

When you hit a creative block, what helps you reset or find your spark again?
Switching to another hobby or craft usually does the trick. It helps me appreciate the talent and skill required to make stuff with my hands, which usually leads to feeling more inspired and helps met get out of my rut.

Tell us about a time someone else’s make or feedback truly made your day.
My friend made me a gorgeous wine bottle holder for my birthday a few years ago!

Any secret WIPs or upcoming projects you can give us a little sneak peek about?
I’ve been working on some fun new scarf designs for autumn/winter, so definitely keep an eye out for those

What’s one underrated tool, trick, or tip you swear by?
Magic ring all day long! Best trick to avoid weaving in ends.

If you could spend a day crafting with any other Ribblr designer, who would it be and what would you make together?
Not sure if she’s on Ribblr but my pal Weera (@crochet_met_w) is a super talented crochet designer! I’d love to make a bag inspired by Bottega Veneta’s Mini Jodie with her.

What’s currently playing in the background while you create; music, shows, podcasts?
All three, depending on my mood! When I need to focus (e.g. when writing patterns or updating my website) I tend to listen to music – True Blue and Caroline Polachek have been my faves as of late. When crocheting/knitting I tend to listen to Bald and the Beautiful or watch anything Bravo (watching VDP Rules whilst writing this).

What keeps you coming back to Ribblr?
It’s a great platform to find new designers and get inspired!

Got any recent social updates or new platforms you’re on? Drop the links!
Been sticking to the (un)holy trinity of Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest, though I have been posting on r/crochet lately, too. My handle for all socials is @devout_hand

Feed takeover time! Have any newer favorite Ribblr patterns or designers we should highlight this time around?
Sleepy bunny pattern by Sisu’s corner!

Thanks so much for being here Elliyah, it was a pleasure to read about you again!
