Ribblr of the Week - Welcome Back Hunter Mae! šŸ’œ

Say hello to Hunter Mae @maecrochets - our Ribblr of the Week and the designer behind Mae Crochets

Welcome back! We got to chat with @maecrochets a few years ago which can be found here but this week we are catching up!

How has your crafting journey evolved since we last chatted? Any new discoveries or shifts in your style?
No real shifts in my style, but an emphasis on size inclusivity. I expanded my crochet butterfly top pattern into more sizes (XS - 5X), and I’ve also been working on more of my ā€œMae to Measureā€ patterns! These are patterns I created that allow you to input your body measurements into the PDF itself, and I calculate the rows and stitches needed throughout the pattern!

Is there a craft or technique you’ve recently tried (or want to try) that’s outside your usual comfort zone? How did it go or what’s holding you back?
Honestly, my goal this year is to learn how to sew! I have a lot of years of experience with crochet, I’m feeling more comfortable with knitting, now is just to learn how to sew! What’s holding me back is just time dedication.

What’s one design or make that totally surprised you, either in how it turned out, how it was received, or how it challenged you?
My Ultimate Stash Bust Sweater Pattern! I made it because I wanted to get rid of a lot of my stash yarn, and I wasn’t even planning on making it a pattern! I posted it online, and everyone loved it. It truly shocked me, and now it’s one of my best sellers!

When you hit a creative block, what helps you reset or find your spark again?
If I need to come up with something soon, I like to scroll pinterest and look at recent trends. But the way that helps me the most is by just stepping away from everything for a while. I go in waves of creativity, and when I’m in a rut, I know it’ll come back eventually!

Tell us about a time someone else’s make or feedback truly made your day.
I love it when people reach out, mentioning that my pattern fits them really well. I hear so many stories about people who struggle with other patterns fitting them. It keeps me motivated to continue making patterns the way I do when I know someone is happy and comfortable in the garment they’ve made from my pattern.

Any secret WIPs or upcoming projects you can give us a little sneak peek about?
I’ve been releasing a ton of content this year about ā€˜How to Become a Pattern Designer’! In the next few months, I’ll be covering tips on how to sell your patterns and how you can make interactive patterns yourself!

What’s one underrated tool, trick, or tip you swear by?
Dynamic, interactive patterns. Being able to use any body measurements and any yarn weight is the future of crochet and knit patterns!

If you could spend a day crafting with any other Ribblr designer, who would it be and what would you make together?
I’d love to get together in person with Vincent (KnotBad)! He’s such a fun guy, and I think we could challenge each other, where he could teach me some amigurumi and I could teach him some Tunisian crochet!

What’s currently playing in the background while you create; music, shows, podcasts?
I love watching shows that have a lot of episodes, so I can just binge! Currently, I’m watching the newest season of The Handmaid’s Tale.

What keeps you coming back to Ribblr?
I love the interactive features of Ribblr! Being able to filter the pattern just to your size is game-changing!

Feed takeover time! Have any newer favorite Ribblr patterns or designers we should highlight this time around?
Forever obsessed with my girl Toni from @Tlyarncrafts! Her Tunisian crochet tutorial videos are one of the reasons I fell in love with Tunisian crochet in the first place! Her beginner Tunisian crochet patterns are perfect for anyone who wants to try Tunisian crochet out!

Thanks so much for being here Hunter Mae, it was a pleasure to read about how you’ve been doing!
