Spider Plant!

Hi everyone! I just got a new spider plant and I really want to keep it alive ! Does anyone have any tips for caring for it and propagating it? I’m currently growing it in water, and I’ll move it to soil later.

I had a spider plant too! I had the same set up, I usually put it next to the window since spider plants need indirect sunlight. Also if the leafs dry off make sure to take them off so the plant isn’t feeding nutrients to the dead leafs :3

I hope this helped :]

The botanical name is β€˜Chlorophytum’ and they come in both solid and variegated forms. They’re very tough plants that prefer a shaded area and moderate water. However they will also grow in other environments with more sun and minimal water. Although they will fade to a pale green in high light, low water and not look their best. They are considered an invasive weed in many areas due to their ability to self propagate via their β€˜spider like’ off sets that hang from the adult plant when grown in a hanging basket. Definitely keep in containers instead of garden beds. Propagate by cutting off the offsets and planting.

Each of the small offshoots hanging down can be cut and potted.

You can also propagate by dividing the main plant.

Yeah this tag here is fine but as the botanical space moderator I get notified about every topic made, and I reply if I have anything constructive to add here :)

With my mother’s Chlorophytum comosum, I just turn the stalk with the babies back into the soil where they will root and once they’re firm to the pull, you can cut the stalk connecting to the main plant, makes a fuller pot if there’s multiple plants inside

That stalk will also flower for a short time before making babies, it makes these teeny little white flowers
