Stealing from crafters continues

Imagine building something from scratch with your own two hands.
You put hundreds of hours into perfecting it, only for someone else to come and steal it from you. And claim it is theirs.

This happened to me with my patterns. Which is one of the reasons I built Ribblr.
It was devastating. And now it is happening again.

This time it’s not my patterns. It’s Ribblr.

We recently found that another platform has copied large parts of Ribblr’s work and present it as their own.
I am not talking about building a different craft platform - I welcome healthy competition, especially when it helps crafters.
I mean taking our code and claiming ownership.

This is not innovation. It’s theft.

I am not going to give up. We will fight this. (I am not sharing names for legal purposes, plus - they don’t deserve the PR)

But this is not a Ribblr issue. It is much bigger.

The same opportunistic behavior is spreading across the crafting world.

There is just so much AI slop around.
I saw a few “platforms” that literally index patterns from across the web and present them as their own. And apps that ask users to upload a photo of another design and they’ll generate a copy pattern for you. It is disgraceful.
This is a death sentence to original designs.

Many people don’t even realize they are being tricked into subscribing to an AI-slop app or purchasing a pattern that was never created, tested or written by a real maker.

This is personal to me.

This industry does NOT need more opportunistic companies trying to extract value from us.
And now is the time to act. Together.

Tap below and join our campaign to say no to all this AI slop. We cannot do it alone.

Let’s spread awareness and keep creative spaces for real makers.

Thank you for your support. From the bottom of my heart :purple_heart:

P.S.
I may be slow to respond today. I’m going to take a little break and spend time with family. To be brutally honest it is emotionally taxing  please bear with me

This is appalling. Ribblr has developed into such a wonderful community, it is 100% the nicest place I have ever encountered on the internet and to see it get stolen is just awful. Also, I wholeheartedly agree. Let’s keep ribblr an ai free place

Yes, totally.
We’ve just hired another team member to help us remove AI patterns quicker, it’s definitely on the rise although so far I think at Ribblr we do a pretty good job in keeping zero slop.

As for companies stealing code, content and promoting AI slop or otherwise trying to bank on our own real dedication… that’s something I guess we’ll also have to start fighting. :face_exhaling:

Unfortunately it is happening on Ribblr too. :sob:Someone posts there hard work. Then you have ALL kinds of the same thing. They add stuff to it to make it different. While stealing people’s hard work.

If we can’t even stop it on RIbblr. How are we supposed to stop other sites from stealing? It seems the problem is All over Social Media.

Good luck and God bless everyone and your families

I wish you and the rest of the team the best of luck with this… I know it will be a hard and difficult battle, but I’m positive this app will thrive :ribbot:

It took me a moment to find the right words.

I’ve watched Lir go through this before we started Ribblr. It was hard then as her partner and it’s a different kind of hard now as her co-founder.

AI made it easy for people to steal and launch copycat apps just like the AI slop that is widespread across other spaces.. but the good news is that creating anything of REAL value requires real passion, real know-how. real mission and also real dedication.

We never really said this out loud because it is ultimately our own choice and we don’t deserve anything in return, but we’ve been working 7 days a week for over 7 years now to build this place. And we are very proud of it.
We are not perfect, but the reason why we work into the night and then wake up to do it all again is because we always want to do better. Not better than others - better than our current version. Provide the best tools, best community, and ultimately best access to crafts for everyone.

This is why this place thrives and will continue to thrive. Together :purple_heart:
