Stealing from crafters continues

Hmm, that may not be the same one I’m sure it was deleted? Unless they remade it but I’m not sure if you can do that.

Thank you so much for reporting that! I’m not on Etsy, so I definitely would not have caught that myself

Do you by chance remember which one it was?

I’m so happy to have found this app! It’s been a breath of fresh air from some of the other social media platforms that don’t care enough to take down obvious ai-slop…

Thank you for speaking out about this. It makes me so sad that people out there steal others’ creations to claim as their own. I have found some good fiber artists with patterns I like and have been planning to buy the patterns they make to support them in this trying time!

(Also, seeing your sign off name makes me think of the nickname my brother in law gave me, Lars!)

How do we report an AI Ribblr account? So many of the patterns I scroll by are from one very fake looking account.

Each pattern has a report button at the bottom

Yes! This is what really discourages me from beginning to sell my patterns 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。

This is ridiculous and outrageous. There should be some way we can put up so much of a fight that it stops happening. This is why I don’t even use patterns that aren’t from Ribblr, because I have no trust in humanity anymore. People how can we mark these as our own and tm them somehow so they’re seen as stolen? I just don’t understand how this can be happening all the time!

Yes you’re right. Ribblr’s on Pinterest.

It’s greed and laziness.

Some people see another’s success and want some of it for themselves.

They want money and recognition, NOW.

Yet they don’t have the talent, ability or desire to learn how to do it for themselves. So they steal from others (and or use AI).

We all know, learning a new skill, like crochet, can take years to master. These people don’t want to wait, or learn to crochet, they just want to reap the benefits.

Perhaps we could all put our heads together to come up with some suggestions on how we could try to combat this epidemic.

Sadly I don’t have tiktok or insta but this post inspired me to create something new, I’m going to start rn!

By the way, another AI slop story, basically I found a pattern on Pinterest of a fish that I really wanted to crochet and it looked like this:

Summary

But when I started it looked strange, the rows didn’t add up, so I looked in the comments and apparently it was stolen from a creator whose pattern looked something like this

Summary

AND it was modified by AI. The comments section was filled with disappointed people who got absolutely different project and still had to modify half the pattern. And I was so furious that not only they stole a pattern but also modified it by ai and put a completely different photo

Yeah i understand how it feels when patterns get stolen . You put your heart, soul, time, and effort, only to be stolen by other people and claim its theirs . I wish people these days actually think about others feelings. Some people actually sell them! I mean, come on! Why are so many people earning so much money just because they stole others’ work! That’s just so unfair and so disappointing for the person who worked really hard to make that piece of art! And the sad part is that they can’t do much about it. It’s not illegal anyways. This just breaks my heart everytime I see someone getting crushed. No, I do not see it physically but I know how it feels. This can get hard some times. I hope that those people will learn their lesson . This makes other people who see this happening discouraged to post their own work/patterns because they think their work will also get stolen. But don’t worry ! You are not in this fight alone! We will always continue to support you! Through the good times and bad times, you can always reach out to us whenever you need help! There is nothing wrong with ribblr, the only thing that’s wrong are those people who have no discipline, and claim others’ patterns as theirs. Stay strong and continue to help ribblr become a nice crafting community! :white_heart:

Actually, it is illegal to copy someone else’s work (design/pattern) and claim it as your own, sell it, etc. It is theft and plagiarism.

You can take action if this happens to you.

If it is being sold on Etsy you can report it and hopefully it will be taken down and the shop doing it will be shut down.

If it is on Pinterest you can also report it and it will be taken down.

You can contact the person who has plagiarised/stolen your work and let them know you’ve discovered what they’re up to and request they remove it/stop selling it, give you credit as the maker etc.

If it’s being sold here on Ribblr, you can contact the team and advise them of the situation and they will take it down/close the persons shop/ban them.

If you don’t get action from the offender/platform, after reporting it, those with social media accounts may choose to make a post discussing the issue. This often gets results.

Unfortunately, this won’t stop it from happening as there are many unscrupulous people in the world.

There is also legal action that can be taken. However, as an individual and/or small business, this is often not a viable option.

I do get which app are we talking about. And what hurts the most is seeing it promoted from big youtubers, whilst smaller ones are trying to report it as slop. I only trust Ribblr as a community and I find myself on Ravelry from time to time. Nothing more.

Yes, its absolutely ridiculous. I’m just not sure how to fight it! Any ideas anyone?.

I was just pattern surfing in all’s free crochet. I saw a copyrighted and intellectual property disclaimer written a little different than i had seen before, thought id share it to those who want to put something on their patterns. Unfortunately it probably won’t stop the thieves, but it may stop an honest person from accidentally posting your patterns.

Hmm, I am pretty sure it was this one, or the small dragon ornament.

I saw a pattern here on Ribblr that was definitely taken from one of my favorite crocheters on Etsy. I sent the original creator a message, and she thanked me for pointing it out. It’s really sad that this is happening.
