Hey, so I’ve noticed a reoccurring issue: people signing up for too many tests at once.
The solution I believe would be beneficial to both designers and testers…
testing capped at 4 tests at a time per person.
This way, testers aren’t overcommitting themselves and designers aren’t having to give out extensions all the time.

I completely agree! I’ve seen quite a few people habitually asking for extensions because they were too busy but also applying for new tests. It isn’t fair to the designers. Extensions should be for emergencies, not poor planning.

I think it would be helpful across the board. 4 at a time seems like more than plenty to have on anyone’s plate…but it would also allow testers to sign up for another test if they complete one and the designer hasnt gifted the pattern to release them from the obligation!

that would be a good idea, and maybe the more karma you get (so like every 5 karma) you can extend the cap?
whenever I apply for a lot of tests, I always want them to be worth my time and I know that I can complete the test, and I’ve never had to ask for an extension :)

That’s a neat idea, I’d probably extend it to like every 10 or 20 karma, to help better solidify good testing habits!

omw this is such a good idea! this also helps motivate people to finish tests, especially if they’re full and they want to test another thing

Yea, it seems to me like tests are running much longer than they really need to. Most designers are giving plenty of time to complete the test that I’ve noticed. The ones not giving a proper due date aren’t getting testers.

My thoughts exactly! Figure it could be a way to build good testing habits for everyone without feeling super restrictive!

I think this is a wonderful idea! Limiting the amount of tests an individual has in their library will also help with decision/motivation paralysis as it’s less overwhelming. As a creator, this would make me feel a little less stressed when running tests, I feel like testers would actually put more into testing this way instead of testing just to get a pattern for free

A similar suggestion came up a month or so ago, and I completely agree and hope Ribblr considers implementing this.
As a designer I tend to feel obligated to create unnecessarily long test periods, and then still get asked for extensions. I understand large tapestry/mosaic taking a while, and try to give plenty of time for those, but small projects or amigurumi should be able to be finished in a week or two at most. They can typically be worked up in a day or two.

I’m going to say one test , coming from a lot of craft groups elsewhere,. Some … not all will just take take take , when and only when they return that test can they do another .. this is protecting designers from people just getting free patterns mainly..
How this will be policed is another thing .. maybe designers set their own chat up
.. and name those that don’t return testers
.. or are repeatedly late returning them
Yes I get that things happen ,and things may be held up , but again there are people out there that want everything for free. Designers need people who are committed and won’t take advantage
.. I’ve seen people offer , get pattern and block the designer.. not in here but it happens

So I talked this idea over with a few designers before I made the suggestion cause my initial thought was 1 at a time too, but some designers don’t gift the pattern which removes it from testing library right away, which would hold someone from testing something else even though they’ve finished.

That’s a really good idea I already limit myself on how many tests I have at once cuz at first I applied to way to many and it was honestly spiking my anxiety

Wh9le heartedly agree. It sucks giving super long testing time frames because people don’t plan well. My tests on IG go really smooth with only 2 weeks time frame, even for my dragons. They just seem to understand to only apply to what they can finish and to get started right away if possible (obviously there’s going to be outliers eventually but so far they’ve been great). That’s not something ribblr testers seem to understand or they overload themselves with too much so the designers suffer. Some are amazing and those are the ones I’ll keep accepting. I’m definitely becoming more strict because I’m tired of tests taking a month to get through and people still asking for extensions

This might also help stop people from applying to tests just because they want a free pattern. So tired of that. Don’t apply if you’re not here to help. This isn’t so you can mooch off of me and get a free pattern

I agree but one issue also is that some people that are I charge of the testing don’t gift the pattern to the people when they are done so it ends up saying they are still testing the pattern

Yep, I understand that. I think this idea would help designers and testers both build healthier testing habits.
Additionally, if you don’t use all 4 at once, it shouldn’t be a huge issue to just wait a few days and sign up for another thing…
If the designer hasn’t gifted and removed it from your library, then you should dm them and discuss that.

It definitely needs limiting, and I still think yous need to have a chat or group where designers only can warn each other of non returns..

For me this happens because I apply to several at close to the same time but I have no idea if I’ll be selected or not and usually it’s “not”. So I cast a wider net and occasionally I’ll catch more fish than I expected
