Take a Stand against A.I. Crochet

I’m sure all of you have seen at least one A.I. generated crochet pattern like this one before.

They have become rampant in our community. These patterns may look aesthetically pleasing on the outside, but on the inside, they are messy and disjointed, with an end result that looks nothing like the promised product. Unfortunately, this unscrupulous practice is devaluing actual designers and seriously hurting the crochet industry as a whole. Consumers who do not know better turn to these patterns because, at the outset, they may seem cheaper than a pattern whose designer put hours and weeks of love and toil into. The customer’s final project then leaves them disenchanted with the crochet process as a whole.

I have decided to take a stand to show everyone that artificial intelligence is unnecessary in the crochet community. Anything that A.I. can try to design, a human artist can design three times better. I wish to show this to everyone who purchases crochet patterns, to show them that there is always an under eecognized artist with the talent to make the pattern that they dream of.

I will be using the picture of the low quality A.I. patterns above as inspiration to design a similar pattern whose end result actually looks like the picture. I would like to challenge other pattern designers to find their own A.I. generated patterns and do the same. I will then be created a post to share on my blog, Craftycrochetcritters.wordpress.com , displaying all of these incredible patterns and their designers, showing the difference between fake patterns and real for all to see.

If you would like to also take a stand against A.I. with, please let me know in the comments below. The deadline to design your pattern is April 25th, 2025. Please, help me show the world the true talent of crochet designers and expose A.I for the fraud it is.

This is an extremely amazing and necessary project. AI is taking over our craft, wasting our time, money, and likely discouraging beginner crocheters as the badly created AI crochet patterns may result in them thinking that it is their fault. Though I cannot create patterns, I would like to support in any other way that I can. (Unfortunately, I cannot do anything monetary.) I could definitely share this project with fellow Ribblarians and people in real life, however.

This is so cool!! So we’d find an AI crochet image and try to make what we see?

I would love to join in! I come across tons of ai patterns and am tired of seeing them! I’ll do my best to finish by the deadline, but I’m not confident I will!

Thank you! And no worries, I will probably end up extending the deadline, because I am a slow designer, lol.

This is a great idea! I would love to join! As a designer I know how much work goes into designing a pattern and it makes me mad that ai is making patterns!
