Just a friendly little tid bit, none of Dawn soaps are unscented, not even their “Original” (which isn’t their original anymore I can speak to that. We actually called headquarters when they changed) and we don’t use scented, some have essential oils, but ABSOLUTELY NO Phthalates to make any scents stick even natural, and we don’t use any fabric softener, I have MCAS (Mast Cell Activation Syndrome) which basically the fast way to explain it is, I am allergic to way too much, closest we come to fabric softener is vinegar ![]()
Thanks for that info.
We just use the blue dawn and vinegar because it is great at stripping down whatever is coating stuff like hand me downs or whatever from the store …all the other detergents scented or not are a pain…right!?!?!???
After we use that, we wash with Charlie’s soap (that’s the brand Charlie’s Soap but they make other stuff) actually. It’s soap. It’s the only thing that doesn’t cause a rash on my son’s skin. We started using it with our cloth diapers and fell off trying to save money using some “free and clear” stuff. That was just not it. Rashes galore. We had to strip everything and go back to the soap.
I thought the dawn was different but no one believed me. Now here is proof. Thank you for the affirmation.
Yeah we had to get soap from out of the states, brands that tell you the sources of their weird name ingredients, and all have to be palm (not counting coconut) free
Uggghhh gave me the heeby geebees just talking about this. I hate short velvet (scratchy) and most microfibres.
I am AuDHD with anxiety and sensory processing disorder to name a bit and just made a very small maybe 7 in long Ice Bear from We Bare Bears for my son. He is AuDHD and has his own sensitivities. I understand completely so I try to be sensitive to the textures he loves and despises. He found a yarn that he adored and asked for Ice Bear. He was out with Dad so I just told my husband how much to get and I didn’t want to sew eyes and a nose so make sure to buy those.
My husband told me it was super soft yarn and I said good the boy child will actually like a stuffy I make him. I guess that was my husband trying to tell me it was the yarn I don’t like my my husband is NT and I didn’t pick up on that. It was that awful velvety super soft bernat like yarn but not quite. I don’t know quite how to describe it. What should have taken an evening took me 2 weeks it felt so awful.
We shall see if he loves it. If he wants Griz and Pandy I don’t know if I will be able to take it without some screaming sessions. The things parents do for their kids. I definitely won’t be using this yarn for an order.
I LOATHE wool yarn. Once I was diagnosed, I finally felt like I had permission to donate all my wool makes and my wool yarn.
Merino wool is fine - but I haven’t crocheted with it yet.
So I feel you!
I was looking for an acrylic alternative for size 6 yarn and did find some merino wool yarn on LoveCrafts - so maybe that’s something to try? (I have POTS and need breathable material for my wearable makes).
YES! Omg I had such bad sensitivity to many different yarns. Some acrylics, velvet, and bulky, make me js feel like I could scream.
I struggle to use anything that is 100% acrylic it makes me SO uncomfortable the whole time. My go-to’s are cotton and wool blends. Which sucks because acrylic is so cheap
With Peaches and Cream or any other cheap cotton irritates the fire outta me!
Crocheting with bamboo/ bamboo blends are wonderful. I don’t like Bug Twist, Hobby Lobby Acrylic, Lion brand, red heart, caron Furls Wander Yarn. The best acrylic for me is from Premier Yarn.
I have some red heart blankets that responded well to a vinegar soak, regular way and dry. Comes our way softer and fluffier
ooh, I also adore the hat and probably won’t make it but feel a mighty need to own the pattern anyway ![]()
