Hi Debi! I’m Adera. 43. I live in south carolina, i consider myself a hobby collector, i’m a mother of 3, two adults and one 17year old. I started crocheting in 2024 in May while on my birthday/mothers day camping trip. Working to start my own crafts and gaming business and I would love to try illusion knitting but need more practice with crochet. My favorite color is green of just about any shade, I love owls and I have sugar gliders.

Nice to meet you and welcome!

I’m in Norfolk, VA!
Sugar gliders are cool. Had a veteran who kept them, so cute! ( I used to work with veterans in the VHA).
Illusion crochet? Do tell!
I like green too! But my favorite colors are yellow, orange, and hot pink!

I’m Kaz! I’m 25 and live in the North East of the United States.
I’m a Library Assistant and about to start my first semester of Law School.
I’ve been crocheting since I was a kid but I would say that it didn’t actually click until about 5 years ago when I started using patterns instead of just free handing everything haha.
I do a lot of loom and machine knitting (mainly around the holidays when I’m running out of time while crocheting gifts). I can knit by hand as well but only very very basic things, I am still trying to get a handle on learning the terms but I hope to one day do some more complex pieces other than doll hats and mini pouches.
I also sew as well, but I typically only break out my sewing machine when someone asks me to repair their clothes or Comic Con comes around and I decide to make a cosplay that I have no hope of finishing on time.

Like @AderaZanon, I consider myself to be a hobby collector. I have the supplies for just about anything but I always return to crochet in the end.

Oh and my favorite color is green. Go Slytherins. :snake:

I found illusion knitting while looking up patterns one day. I saw a blanket someone had made a skull in but you couldn’t see the skull unless you looked at it from a different angel. I did find someone that was trying to make it with crochet but it was too advanced for me.

Hi Kaz! Nice to meet you.
Since I have been crocheting the only things I have freehanded was the bag I started on my camping trip and a small tape measure holder. I’m proud of them. Other than that I have a lot of tests that I have done on here and I Love all of them! Mostly amigirumi things but they seem to be the best things since my yarn collection is a little all over the place.
I am guilty of seeing pretty yarn and saying ooooohhhh I need this for such n such but then I forget to get enough. I also caked all that I have before I learned about some projects requiring whole skiens haha.

As for my hobby collection I love doing anything I can and trying new things. Right now I have a cycle of reading, gaming, crocheting and gardening.

Oh those sound so cute. Bags are always nice to freehand, it’s just the stretching you have to worry about.

I’ve been doing a bunch of tests on here too. I started at the end of April this year and got a little testing happy with signing up. I have 5 more tests to finish this month and then I need to focus on my own patterns for a little while :sweat_smile::sweat_smile:

I love all of my tests too, though it can be frustrating when people add you to them without you applying to be apart of their tests, or when the creators never message you back while testing.

What kinds of books do you like to read and what games do you play?

I haven’t had anyone add me to their tests without me having applied yet. I have did have a couple that never responded to my questions about their patterns and only one that i guess changed their name or something, they just never replied. Most of my experiences have been on the positive side.

I love stephen kings books and collections. Louis Lamoore I think theres an ’ in there somewhere. Currently reading a series called Crochet mysteries. Each book has a pattern and recipe at the end and they are fun for me because it’s hard to pin point the murderer.

Games currently are Drop Duchy, kinda like tetris from medieveal times with a fun battle after you drop all the blocks. Ark, Empyrion, World of Warcraft, Grounded, Raft, Command & Conquer and Rift are multiplayer games I like playing. Also like boardgames and card games but those are hard to play solo.

What about you?

I want to try some of the patterns in this book!

Maybe sometime we could do one together!!

Ooo, I tried knitting but I crochet tight and can’t seem to “scoop” up the stitch. I think I’ll give up on that and just focus on getting good at Tunisian Crochet.

Camping trip? I wonder what you ended up making on that trip?
A washcloth?

I’ve tested in here before. A lot of them ended up being unpleasant experiences. So, I stopped.
I tested for @Cloud9 and @JAdamsCollection, those were good experiences.

I started a yarn bag, I wasn’t able to finish it until I got home. Its the first thing I finished.

pipe cleaners for size reference as I didn’t measure anything lol

I do keep meaning to make a washcloth but I get sucked back into tests here.

Who’s the author for the Crochet Mysteries? I’d like to see if I can get them on Audible.

Ok, thanks! Have you figured out knitting yourself?

Tunisian crochet is actually good practice for knitting, stitches are picked up in a similar manner

I taught myself to knit and crochet from books as a kid, long before the internet was available for public use

I could knit at first but I couldn’t purl. Until I stood behind and watched a friend purl, then it finally clicked.
