This or That: Skein or Cake? (Winners Get Gems!)

I always cake my yarn. Well… I try to. I procrastinate a lot, so it usually takes a bit for me to cake everything. I love how stackable they are once they’re in cakes though :)

I leave it as a skein until it’s unstable. Hand winding it into a ball or cake from there.

I only spin the smaller yarns into cake because I don’t have a spinner and gotta do it with my hands But I do prefer cakes not skeins

If I buy yarn from my local yarn store (= LYS) I have them wind into a cake. My tiny studio apartment has no room for the winder and swift to be set up properly

Anything from Michael’s, Walmart HL etc I don’t bother.

I don’t have a yarn winder, but i prever cakes. I often work with gradient yarn that already comes as cake.

Because i’m bedbound quiet often and also have to stay at the hospital quiet often i hate to pull the yarn all the time (not always possible to bring a yarn holder to hospital). I can put yarn cakes next to me and just continue crocheting. Skeins will often fall to the ground (i know the hospital floor is cleaned every day but i still hate it when the skein touches the ground, don’t know why) and when i pull out some meters of yarn beforehand the yarn often tangles with my tubes and cables.

So, for me it’s yarn cakes. And i really need an electric yarn winder…

I’m a skein person. Even if the yarn unravels, i just roll it up into a ball.

Cake. Skeins get super tangled after a while, and pulling from the middle seems to deflate it. cakes are my life.
