- Tighter tension
- Don’t give up on one project and move on to five others! It makes you very overwhelmed.
- Don’t agree to make too many things at once for people, and don’t be scared to let them know you can’t or it will take a while.
- Everyone makes mistakes when crocheting, don’t get upset if your piece doesn’t look as perfect as someone else’s!
It doesn’t need to be perfect. Learn, be kind to yourself, and work to perfection. Esp if you’re not selling. No one will notice if you throw an increase into a round to get your stitch count right.
don’t use a 5mm hook with weight 4 yarn for amigurumi, you gotta turn your thing inside out, and you don’t decrease down to 1 stitch at the bottom XD
also… invisible decreases are not supposed to be in the back loop only ![]()
and don’t use Chenille yarn as a beginner…
Yes! I used to let that happen before I realized I could make them give me money, lol
Don’t use a 3 mm hook for everything, flip your amigurumi and tighter tension. Also, don’t overwork yourself.
That everyone deserves love and respect no matter who they are. Even murderers deserve love and respect. We all have dignity. This year I’m going to behave differently. I’m going to love others with my whole heart, even if it’s through small acts of kindness like asking how someone’s day is or even just smiling at someone in the hallway. I encourage everyone reading this to do the same. Have a blessed day! (Also I know this isn’t crafting advice but I thought it would still be nice!)
A not as tight tension!
And to not sign up for pattern tests that I can’t finish
To crochet tighter and use polyester stuffing and to use a stitch marker
You should have signed up for Ribblr to get free patterns instead of paying $20 for a book that does not make sense.
I really wish I had taken pictures of everything I made, no matter how “awful” it was. I also wish I knew how much of a difference the way you photograph your projects makes!
Every craft project can look beautiful if you take an aesthetic picture that highlights it’s good points!![]()
(For me now, half the fun of crafting is taking pictures to document what I’ve made!) With some good lighting, painted nails and even just an average cellphone camera you can show the best side of your handiwork!!!![]()

Also, you’ll see how over time your hands have naturally learned and improved over the years!!!![]()
So keep going!!!
Crochet through both loops
I wish I knew to not make a magic ring with chenille yarn AUGH THE PAIN and also a cleaner color change, but I’m still working on that right now
You deserve the peace that comes with crocheting. Your art, your work, it has worth. It’s worth your time and effort. You’re allowed to be proud of it. You’re allowed to enjoy it. You’re even allowed to make mistakes, because that’s how you learn. It’s not stupid. It’s not useless. You’re allowed to rest and take up space and create wonderful things.
Tight tension , don’t give up , and keep going ! I struggled with wanting to just quit because my schedule was to packed .I had so much to do and was spending too much time on the screen instead of reading , crocheting and doing what I was supposed to be doing . And of course I took it out on crochet thinking I was doing too much of it . ( but you can never have too much of crochet ) anyway so just don’t give up and keep trying !![]()
I think my advice would be to take breaks, and to stretch and excersice your hands and wrists daily. Stretch them during, stretch them before, stretch them after, stretch them EVEN when you’re not working on something. If there is even the slightest inkling of joint problems in your medical history or family, STRETCH YOUR WRISTS
Your future self will thank you!!! A few minutes can make all the difference between working and not working on a wip in the future!!
I would tell my past self to not rush through projects to be able to enjoy making patterns and crochet, I also wish that I could tell my past self to get plush yarn because it makes crocheting plushies a lot faster.
To just learn how to decrease, instead of doing…whatever I was doing.
Try not to have more than one or two projects. Tell yourself you can’t start another until you finish one. Otherwise you may never go back to it.
Also, crochet what interests you. Working on a bunch of stuff to sell or that’s trendy, “just because” will lead to burn out.
Most importantly… Stretch your hands and wrists before and after crocheting. It’ll help prevent strain, improve blood flow and reduce risk of injury
Weave in your ends. (mistake learned)
Start amigurumi sooner, don’t be intimidated, it turns out to be really easy!
