What plant is this?

So today I found this poor little leaf on the ground, and I just had to know if I can give it a second chance!

It has a light green pattern on top, purple back and this long purple root that gets white at the tip

Methinks it’s a begonia.

It looks like a water lily leaf

It looks similar to a strawberry begonia but I don’t think that’s what it is. I would just look up plants with purple leaves underneath. That may narrow it down!

Okay first of all, I’m debunking begonias, they are a tropical plant and grow bigger leaves with a distinct offset in the leaf (check out some begonias, the leaf petiole is not centered)

Too little colour and too bright of a green for cyclamen, they usually have stronger patterns…

I’d personally put my guess on a violet, the leaf shape and jaggedness match, though this is a common leaf shape in the area for multiple different species…

My personal opinion, not to be taken for the truth tho, regardless of my knowledge

Suspecting this is some local flora and not some plant enthusiasts’ dropped leaf

And do we think it will grow if I keep it in water? :0

I’m gonna try anyway, won’t hurt to try, but just curious lol

If it’s a violet, I dont really think it will, you could get some rooting hormone but I don’t know if it’ll help all that much… Dunno, never tried to prop by leaves and I don’t really know if it’s possible :person_shrugging:

Looks like a cyclamen to me.

Here’s a pic of mine. Unfortunately some caterpillars have been munching away on it. :sob:

Generally cyclamen are propagated via seed or by dividing the tubers. Here’s some of the babies that have started shooting up from last years seeds.
