Where are my lefty crocheters at?

How’s it going? How did you learn to crochet? Did you learn from a lefty? I learned by mirroring right handed crocheters on YouTube.

I learned how to chain from my grandmother when I was young. She never taught me to do more than that, but she taught more to my cousin who lived near us who is my age. I always thought I just didn’t make even enough chains or something, so she didn’t teach me the next step. Now I realize it was probably because she didn’t know how to show me more because I’m a lefty.
I kinda had a block until a little over a year ago when a friend mentioned she loves making little gifts with crochet.
I thought maybe I could make something small, but was afraid of starting with a chain. I discovered the Magic Ring- no chains required! I used YouTube to learn the basic stitches. One creater had a right-handed and left-handed version of a simple stitch and I realized that to make the stitches, I just have to mirror a right-handed demo.
I used YouTube to learn all the basics and the first amigurumi (primarily right-handed videos). I have a YouTube playlist of crochet techniques I’ve cultivated of tips on everything from color changes to no-sew techniques.

Yes!! Sometimes in my patterns I will add tutorial photos and to make them right handed I just flip/mirror the image. As a lefty I’ve been mirroring my whole life so I didn’t find mirroring YouTube videos very difficult. Teaching right handed people VERY difficult :joy:

Hi!
2 years ago, during summer, I went to a festival and bought a small bee crochet. And just by that I got into crochet, and I learned all the basics from YouTube! And I’m a righty.

True that! I’m muddling through with my kids. I’m glad they keep asking/letting me try to teach them again and again.

You should check out my patterns. I provide videos for lefties and righties. You can select which one at the top.
