So recently I have been writing a fantasy book! I have a GC for readers, but it’s kinda dying…
So basically, I would love to recruit some people who would like to read it!
Here are some things abt it.
- Sorta LGBTQ+
- Similar to KotLC
- Lots of trauma, panic attacks, like I would describe TADC.
- You are welcome to say ur ships and favs (tbh I would absolutely LOVE that)
- I don’t like killing off characters so ur fav probably won’t die
- I put this in a doc, so you need to have a Google acc
- Each chapter is abt 2000-3000 words long
- Show me the typos pls (I am not a masterful writer lol)
- I will occasionally post character designs
- The italic is the characters’ thoughts
- The name of the book is By Fire Light
- So the pov changes a lot, and I added patterns so that you can try and decipher which character is talking
- Schizophrenic, autistic and ADHD characters are shown
- I would love even more to hear yalls conspiracy theories
- To join, add a
and a
and write 'i would love to read! (And add a conspiracy theory if you want to) - Without further ado, here is my first chapter!
Chapter 1 of BFL
During the field trip to the dinosaur bones Ima had already seen a million times before, she realized a new addition to the museum had been added. They had a section for crystals too! She gasped at the beauty of the amethyst geodes.
“Oh, if it isn’t the 16 year-old prodigy again” one of the ugly bullies said. “What, you thinking of going to Harvard now? Well too bad.” he said, waving his admission to the university around. If they took him in, that would be the equivalent of giving an atomic bomb permission to enter the core of the Earth and blow up. If his head had gained only an atom more of hot air, he’d blow up before getting access to the core of the Earth. Hopefully the prestigious college wouldn’t come to such genocidal matters. Ima ignored him and went to their collection of tourmaline. She was about to read the information until the teacher called time to go.
Already?
Of course her parents wanted her to be smart without giving her any access to information. No internet, no summer camps, no tutors, it was crazy to ask of any child, but the consequences pushed her. After the long bus ride, she walked home with her sisters, Kako and Mirai.
“So, how was the museum visit?” Kako asked. She was very observant and she had a reliable memory.
“It was good,” Ima said, deciding not to tell them about the bully. “Did you know they added a minerals section?”
“No, but when I get to go, I’m gunning for those hyacinths and chrysanthemums!” Mirai said. She was a huge whiz at botany and grew a few flowers in secret at their home, although her parents didn’t let her. Soon later, they arrived home. Kako unlocked the door to be greeted very nicely by their parents.
“What took you so long?! You’re a minute late!” Her mom asked rather demandingly. Ima wanted to roll her eyes, but she learned the hard way not to do that.
“Well, I had to pick up some finished homework.” Ima said, grabbing the long marked homework that she had just in case she needed an excuse. A perfect hundred percent marked on it. Her mom checked it, then gave it back.
“Walk faster next time.”
Ima went towards her room, and started crocheting the work in progress she had started. She wanted to make 3 matching birds for a little pattern she wanted to review for an art project. An hour and 54 minutes later, she finished 3 of them. A budgie, a pigeon and a chicken. She was about to start her Pekin duck until they were called for dinner. She marched down the stairs to eat and they had mystery food even she couldn’t identify. At that point, even normal cafeteria lunches were better than this.
I’m never letting them do the cooking again.
They ate in silence as the clock reached nine’o’clock. She washed her plate and left it on the drying rack and raced to her room. After taking a shower, she flipped a paper on her door that said ‘sleep’, although she wasn’t going to, and went to study. She read three 72 chapter books in that 9 hours, all of the only books she had on geology. She wasn’t tired. She’s now used to not sleeping, it’s one of her many red flags. And a crazy voice in her head.
She prepared her bag for another day. She grabbed her pencil case and notebook and set off for breakfast. Her parents weren’t awake yet, so she grabbed a waffle for her meal. Mirai came shortly later and they waited for Kako together. Kako finally came rushing down the stairs and she made a cup of coffee and some French toast.
Heh. Old.
Kako was only a year older than her, but the gap was big. In both maturity and self control. But Kako actually slept, so that’s a plus.
Yeah, see? Why don’t you sleep?
There was many questions that Ima couldn’t answer, and that was a reoccurring one. Kako poured her coffee into a bottle and they went off.
“Wish me luck. I’m getting my test today.” Ima said as they arrived at the school. She waved away before going in to get to her locker, and then she put her stuff inside. After her main classes, lunchtime came. Of course when you ace all tests in 12th grade, literally failing one because you finished too fast, people don’t like you. She was 16 years old, which meant that she skipped a grade and was younger than the others. The bell rang, and she went to her math class. She basically saw the answers.
Ugh. Just end already.
She watched as someone pulled out a calculator to calculate 3 x 5.
Seriously? You can’t do that? Stupid.
Then to language class.
“Jikanji.” Mr. Vera called out to a disconnected Ima. “You passed with flying colors again! Best in class!” She returned his smile with the fake she always wore, hoping to be spared from the damage this imperfection would cause.
“Again? You’re always soooo cool aren’t you?” Her annoying friend Saiko teased, fanning her blue and pink hair and cat ears into Mr. Vera’s face. In a world where part-animal human hybrids exist, a quarter of the population was made up of them.
“Donde, you must know that class is not over yet. Do you want me to have a word with your teacher?” She glared at the unnecessary use of her last name, but Ima still wondered why she was…. Congratulating her when her own perfect score shone through the windows separating them.
“Well…. Thanks I guess. But Sae, you should get back before the detention extends.” Ima warned. From those words, Saiko scurried off to her class with a wave and wink.
Hey, at least she had 20 minutes to prepare for the consequences.
It’s safe to say she wasn’t.
The tear-stained 98 score on her math test was dreadful.
“Why is this not 100?!” Her dad asked again.
“It’s better than the last test!” Ima shouted in protest.
“Are you yelling at me?” he asked, in that stupid tone that adults used when they thought they had the power, but Ima was unfazed.
“Seriously, do you even care about me? I know what tough love is and you’re failing at it.” she shot back. But that was enough. The echo of the slap across Ima’s face echoed throughout the hall, probably enough for her sisters to hear. Ima glared at him and stomped off to her room.
Seriously!
And so she started packing up her stuff. To probably escape home for 2 seconds then realize she couldn’t do that.
Why not? You’re fine with dying, aren’t you?
She shook off the thought and continued. She needed something to do before she broke something. A journal where she wrote everything her parents did, a random handheld game, her favorite card game. The silence was cut by the doorbell’s ring. Her dad glared at her with a look that transmitted ‘Shush or you’ll start begging.’ So she did. The door revealed a group in black robes and masks and Ima saw that they each had a different pin. But she wasn’t really excited to hear what they wanted from their looks.
“We are part of a group appointed by the government.” the one with a silvery badge with a bright, almost fluorescent fire engraved on it.
“We need children between the ages of 6 to 19 to come with us.”
Nu-uh! These guys are creepy and no thank you!
But from the looks of this conversation, she didn’t have a say in it.
“So… what? Are you going to give me anything? Look at this test score! I need at least a payment for this! She’s going to go so far in life, so I need something to compensate for giving up a life?” Which completely, absolutely completely contradicted every little thing he said about her, but again, her perfect smile stayed on.
“Yes. For each child you get a million dollars. Are you satisfied with that?” Her dad lit up upon the mention of money, but of course his greed came through.
“Hmm. I’ll give you my 3 kids for 4 million, is that enough?”
What…?
She knew he hated her, but coming to this?
Wasn’t this illegal? She was about to be traded like a bargaining chip and didn’t get to fight back. But before she knew it, the papers were signed with a cold chill to the words that decided her future.
“Deal.”
She was traded.
Given away for a measly million dollars.
The terror ate at her.
It made her Schizophrenic mind scatter into so, so many bad things of her.
Am I enough?
Of course not.
If I were, they would’ve kept me.
Us.
They sat in the lonely truck, the three connected by blood, trying to process what happened.
It was all too fast.
Her world was spinning.
All too fast for her to hear Mirai’s sobs.
“There’s no way… No…”
Ima couldn’t bring herself to comfort her.
Because I can’t!
What could you even say to make this better?
…
You’re too stupid to even think of something!
She banged her head against the wall, needing complete silence to comprehend what had just happened.
“Calm down. It’s okay” Her older sister’s shaky voice said. At least she had them. She probably wouldn’t go insane while they were there.
Hello? You’re already insane, you moron!
But she didn’t care. The words picked at her, but nothing could shatter the silence as much as the words she heard later.
“These ones are like, what, the 230th kids here?”
“Yep. That means we have some sacrificial lambs to offer.”
She thought the place looked a little too good for an illegal process of obtaining children.
It’s not like your opinion matters anyway.
But before she trodded deeper down the descending rabbit hole, a soft voice stopped her.
“It’s okay.”
She turned to see the amber colored eyes leaving hers.
“Put the blonde with the intelligent ones.”
Kako’s blue hair looked too perfect for the time, as did Mirai’s.
But at least they had someone.
Ima wouldn’t.
But she didn’t have time to think about it, as the cloaked ones concealed a gag around her nose and mouth, the scent of a sedative.
The last view she had of the open skies was the sun setting, dawning a cadmium orange over the night.
