A message from me about AI patterns

Hey Ribblrs, it’s me, Lir, co-founder of Ribblr :waving_hand:

I wanted to reach out to you (and sharing this today via email too) because over the last year I’ve seen so many companies use AI to replace creative people and even apps that are all about AI-patterns.

On Ribblr, we’ve seen more AI patterns being uploaded then ever before. And we removed over 100 in 2026 alone.

Many of you know that I started Ribblr from a personal need. I always found following patterns and writing them so complex. But you probably don’t know that I’m also a musician, and video producer/editor.

You may disagree, but in my view the beauty of art is the journey. The imperfections. It’s the one stitch that is a bit off. It’s that guitar buzz that you spot on the record. This is what makes us human.

6 years ago we created this platform. A place where people can follow patterns with ease, and designers’ work can be respected and protected. We’ve not taken any investor money. We spent our own life savings building Ribblr. And we continue to improve it, every single day.

Look. I know I cannot stop other people and companies from rolling out AI patterns. But I can control the vision of Ribblr. And I want to be very clear by saying this:
Ribblr says NO to AI patterns.

AI patterns replaces designers. And no designers means no innovation.

Ribblr exists to give crafters the tools they need to help them on their crafting journey. This is what Ribblr did (and continues to do) for me, in my crafting journey.
Like tracking your progress inside a pattern. Or converting cm to inches. Or watching video tutorials. Or just making it easier to create a pattern, taking pictures and videos as you go along. And of course - connecting here with other real makers.

But we can’t do it alone.

So here’s three ways in which you can help us:

  1. Report AI patterns! Our team investigates each report, and removes patterns within 72 hours.
  2. Help us spread awareness! Many don’t even know that AI patterns exists. Tell your friends about the importance of supporting designers and invite them to join Ribblr.
  3. Join our team! If you want to join our team please reach out to me - we’re looking for marketing and customer support professionals who love crafting! My inbox on our community is always open to you (though I’m sometimes slow to respond )

Thanks again for being a Ribblr, and believing in our mission.
by crafters. and for crafters.

Yours,
Lir :purple_heart:

This is such a good initiative that you’re taking! Ai might be uploading patterns, but it can’t make crochet/knitting like we can!

Thank you so much for being on top it. We are respectful crocheter and we cannot allow any A.I trying to take over and we will not be able to show our work or help each others.
Thank you again.

Fantastic I agree 100% with the no AI patterns. Thank you to the Ribblr team for keeping this space an AI pattern free zone. It’s one reason I like this space. I find AI removes not only the designing but the creativity and all the good healthy stuff that comes with using our brains organically.

Just did an IG post yesterday about how much I hate AI. It’s ruining creative spaces. I’m so happy it can’t ruin ribblr. I’m so happy you guys take this stance and protect us from as much as you can by saying no to it. Thank you :heart::heart:

Also if I didn’t have a full time job plus a family, I would totally help  but I think I would crash out of I added one more responsibility. Respect and love to your entire team :heart::heart:

Thank you for saying this! Crochet in my opinion is a crafting journey and AI slop and AI “patterns” make the journey unenjoyable. AI has a place in this world, yes, but NOT EVER in any art space. If an automatic crochet machine can’t be made, then AI certainly cannot write a good pattern.

Also, I believe that using AI to write a pattern for your shop to try to profit is so disrespectful to the real artists who spend time to write a pattern for others to enjoy. AI detracts from that.

Thank you again for putting this out there.

I think all the time and effort the Ribblr team takes deserves applause (:clap::clap:) because I have never ever spotted an AI pattern on here. I really don’t get AI patterns, crochet is an art form and that deserves and requires REAL human thought and effort

We appreciate you for keeping AI out of this creative space, Lir!

As a pattern designer who strives to create my own unique patterns, having an anti-ai app like Ribblr is something precious!
