AI has gone toooo far šŸ˜“ šŸ¤–

Heeey guys!!

I just want to express myself, what I though and what I felt, in our crochet (or any sort of craft) community - AI has just gone waaay too far…

I am sitting and listing through crochet patterns to purchase on Etsy, and I am in tears, when I see that literally most of the photos are AI generated, or the product itself doesn’t look anything like real crochet :sob: :sob: How I wish AI was illegal in crafting, because, before we know it, our entire life will be AI, AI will replace everything and everyone, and it will take away the opportunity to do something with your own hands and thinking, if that isn’t already the world that we live in… AI in crafting, or anywhere just makes me very sad, including these made up stories, again, by AI, which are bursting all over the internet with this boy who gets bullied for trying to sell his ā€œcrochet hand-made bagsā€, and others :woman_facepalming:

Looook at this

What do you guys think?? Isn’t this horrible?! I so very appreciate all the effort that our community puts into eliminating AI in our crochet/knitting world as much as possible :sparkling_heart: Thank you everyone!

noooooo :sob:
i see so many ai patterns too, like when i search up crochet bundles there’s so many results with ā€˜100 Crochet Animal Patterns!’ for like $3 and it’s all ai generated :broken_heart:

What’s even more despicable is the people behind these ā€œshopsā€ selling these ā€œpatternsā€ to unsuspecting crafters who simply don’t realise they are being scammed. It makes me so mad.

Unfortunately, some people have to learn the hard way. Hopefully when the customer/purchaser discovers they’ve been scammed, they’ll reach out to Etsy to report this and get their money back.

All I can say is, if you come across one of these shops on Etsy, report the shop not the individual pattern. Maybe if we all do this we can slow this down. I know we can’t stop it, but we can at least let these scammers know we’re onto them and won’t take it.

I hate AI and everything about it. I flat out refuse to use it in any way, shape or form.

At least we know Ribblr is a safe place. :sparkling_heart:

Noooooo - I hate seeing ai patterns - why does everything have to be ai nowadays, is it that hard to just put in the effort to do it yourself?! I’m so glad Ribblr banned ai patterns:smiling_face:

Yeah I get you - it looks horrible.
I’d love to know why you prefer to shop there so we can improve! If you don’t mind sharing.

Ultimately it’s up to all of us and who we choose to support. we built this platform to support makers just like us, other platforms aren’t built the same way.

Personally we are okay not being the largest platform but sticking to what we believe is right for Ribblr and our community

Etsy needs to wake up and do something about these AI patterns. I’m so happy that Ribblr has the power to stop them.

Well honestly i don’t think Etsy cares about the ai pattern. Liken i watched YT video were people will reach out to Etsy and. . . . Etsy does nothing about it

Etsy suspended my account because I got married and changed my surname but it allows people to sell AI patterns…

its a good thing ribblr has proven time and time again to be against this stuff lol

Wait…Etsy suspended you just because you got married, and so on? That’s ridiculous!

Thats insane

Yes, because it’s an AI bot that controls this stuff! And no matter how many times I send an appeal only some silly AI bot answers it.

wow. sorry that happened to you. That is super frustrating

I did some research several years ago on the pro’s and con’s of using Etsy and found that they just didn’t measure up.

I personally don’t use Etsy because:

  • they don’t align with my values
  • they don’t support genuine handmade products and businesses.
  • they allow AI rubbish - not just crochet patterns
  • they allow drop shipping
  • they are only concerned about making money for their share holders
  • they don’t have real people available to contact for support
  • they use bots instead of real people to go through listings and close shops and do real damage to legitimate handmade businesses.
  • they use an algorithm
  • their fee structure and costs

I would much rather spend my time on a smaller platform like Ribblr, that aligns with my values, than sell my soul to Etsy.

Etsy would be my absolute last resort.

I do believe Etsy has some very talented pattern designers and that’s the appeal. Those pattern designers don’t sell here on Ribblr so you have to go to Etsy (or wherever else the designer sells their patterns) to buy them.

I personally will look on Etsy out of curiosity and to educate myself, however, if I were to see a pattern there, that wasn’t available here on Ribblr, I’d try to find out if the designer sold on another platform, like Ravelry, their own website etc, before I’d even consider buying from Etsy.

yes its horrible! its all over etsy and when I search for something its mainly ai

I totally agree with this. Before I searched up for a crochet pattern and say a ai one on Etsy and the reviews said it was good like they bought it and didn’t know it was ai. And some of the pictures are actually realistic and people are buying them
