So I hav never sold crochet things at a market before but im planning on it soon! But for the people who has had markets-have you have any strange experiences?
i havenât went to a market before, but if you are good luck with planning, you will do great! Youâve got this!![]()
but a quick tip to sell what people like or make many unique items!!
wishing you the best!!
sooo many its unreal.
there once was this lady who had knocked down a lot of my set up and plushies. I knew she didnât feel bad because she didnât help to pick it up, just turned around and looked at everything else. so I went to pick it up, and her little boy ( maybe 4?) was helping me. she snatched him up and said to him âyou better pray none of this is broken so we donât have to payâ. It made me feel weird.
She ended up asking if I could âholdâ something for her and she would be right back.
spoiler; she never came back lol
Never done one before, sry ![]()
thatâs insane ![]()
my gosh, thatâs crazy how someone can be so rude! I would have just not have held it for her as she was rude ![]()
why was my post flagged? did I say something wrong
Iâm sorry if it was rude
The system has been randomly flagging some posts lately, youâll have to wait and contact ribblr to have the post deflagged
ok thanks so much
(phew)
Thats rude of her, she shouldve picked them up and apologized. At least her son was helping you pick them up
iâve never been to a market before!
Havenât had anything too out of the ordinary happen. One or two times people asked for me to hold something and never came back. A bunch of times people just stopped in front of my booth and had full blown 15+ minute chats which deterred people from coming but nbd. Other than that thankfully nothing!
her son was actually super sweet and trying to correct her mom lmao
So apparently Hobby Lobby has started selling cheap crochet items now. Anyway, I was at a market the other day when a woman came up to my booth asking if I had a small bee plushâher friend collects bees or something like that. I showed her my little bee, and she immediately said my price was too high because sheâd seen similar bees at Hobby Lobby for cheaper.
And just like that⌠I lost a customer to Hobby Lobby.
oof that sucks
If someone makes reference to Hobby Lobby or other stores selling cheap crochet items from China, I suggest some of the following responses:
- Yes, Iâve noticed theyâve started to sell cheap, Chinese, crochet items. Itâs sad because:
- They use slave labour in China to make those items
- Crochet items canât be made using a machine
- My products are handmade by me here in _______.
- I donât compete with cheap Chinese imports.
- This is the price you pay for artisanal, handmade in ____, products.
- Here in ___ the minimum hourly wage is ____.
- By purchasing from me, youâre helping a small, local business owner.
- Youâre not my target customer in that case.
- If I charged the same as Hobby Lobby, I wouldnât be able to cover the cost of materials.
- You canât compare my hand made in ____, artisanal products to cheap Chinese imports using slave labor.
Oh my gosh that makes me so angry!! My last market there were these 2 people who came up to my booth and were looking at everything saying aww this is so cute and all that. And then they find this pumpkin and they spend 10 minutes standing there talking and saying how cute it is asking if I made it and all that, they were waiting for me to lower the price but werenât saying it. They finally ended up leaving after basically hogging the whole table for 10 minutes without buying anything.
Ugh I hate when that happens
like I love talking to people especially about my craft but other people wanna buy stuff rn ![]()
Yea but i just wish that if people wanted to talk just not in front of somebody booth!
Yea i went to hobby lobby not to long ago. Theres a bunch of cheap crochet things. But i dont know why they would rather buy something cheap and will fall apart then something thats handmade and will last a while! And plus buying from a market helps a small business
