Ooh that makes sense. About the spaces
This week I followed this pattern:
Which primarily used herringbone half double crochet. A stitch I enjoyed a lot more than I expected to, since I donāt like regular half double crochets.
I did stitch the sides together differently by mistake, resulting in a thinner opening. But since I intend to give it to my younger cousin as a play purse, it wonāt matter. Otherwise Iām quite happy with it. I love the design along the opening flap and the strap.
As far as the bonus question goes, I tend to stick with the classics. But itās always fun to learn a new one, even if I donāt use them much afterwards.
Sorry for the late one yāall, but hopefully the prompt was mostly self explanatory The good news (for me) is that the expansion project is almost finished (really this time
) , and hopefully Iāll get more time to be active/present here.
Anyhow, the prompt this week is dedicated to cozy, cuddly, comfort projects! Whether it is literally those qualities or embodies them in spirit (to you), itās fair game! Iāll work on a inspo post and responding to you all before I head out to work! Excited to see your takes on the theme
Any pattern is welcomed! These are just a sample of options available on ribblr to serve as inspo
I really hoped in the making of these prompts that people would get the chance to experience something new, so Iām glad you discovered you enjoyed the stitch more than you thought you would. The detail around the edges is a fun touch - your cousin is one lucky kid!
I agree it is fun to learn new stitches or use them in new ways; when I feel burned out I usually try a new stitch to mix things up a little ^.^
One of the beauties of destashing is unearthing yarns you forgot you had and giving them their day in the sun, so to speak - happy you were able to stumble upon some buried treasures!
I have to agree with the others this is truly an ingenious way to use up those challenging yarns, like eyelash yarn; never would have crossed my mind until your post to use it this way. The result looks sooooo cozy, too, and the colors you have look great so far! As always, eager to see your completed piece.
Iām almost done with my new stitch pattern entry AND it doubles as cozy. Itās a sweater with a trc, ch 1 pattern. I HAVE used it once before, but never with an 8 mm hook. It sooooo different. I should finish it today!
Oooh thatās very exciting! Love a dual prompt project The stitch pattern sounds so interesting; canāt wait to see it!
It turned out so pretty! I love the colors together too
I guess my blanket fits! Itās so cozy so far
The coziest/cuddliest yarn I worked with is actually Michaels loops and threads chenille I love that yarn
Hereās a progress photo!
Also thank you! I have to thank you for allowing me to unearth the treasures in my yarn stash It is cozy, I love the texture, which is natural I bought these yarns because of that
That looks so cool!!
I definitely have been there wrt taking breaks and understand. I will be crossing my fingers and toes that your wrists continue to be on the mend.
I love how your mom encouraged you to splurge; so sweet! And thatās fantastic - happy you got a good deal on your stuff! Itās been really fun to see your wheel and what youāve been spinning; look forward to seeing more of your foray into this side of fiber ^.^
Hahaha, and thank you! I know my family will be giving me serious side eye when I start bringing more fiber into this house , but Iām excited to experiment if I can ever get my act together LOL
Indeed it does fit our theme - in more ways than one! And itās looking lovely thus far; 100% would have to run my hand over it
LT chenille and the sweet snuggles line are soooooooo cuddly.
Iām glad you will have this nice blanket to snuggle with as a reward for all your hard work stashbusting these last few months
I realized I havenāt been updating much on my own progress during the past few months, so I thought I would just share mine all in one big post!
Way back in September, my WIP to end the month was a pattern test I was working on, and itās released so I can finally show you The Linked Together top (by NovaRaineCrochet) in completion!
I had actually made multiple projects for the Unused Pattern prompt, one of which I already shared, but I kept forgetting to take a picture of the (Tissue) Box Turtle I made from Loafās adorable pattern as I rehomed it to my older sister almost immediately. However, I was finally able to snag a photo yesterday:
I combined Trick and Treat prompts for the end of October. My project for the Trick prompt was a large dragon pattern; I chose this one by CrochetOccult!
For some reason, I was really intimidated to make a dragon, I think maybe the scale(s, ba-da-tssss) of it may have caused me to pause because Iām used to making smaller amigurumi/plushies. Definitely feel like I built up the challenge in my head and made it more daunting than it actually is. My dragon is still a work in progress, as I take breaks to work on other projects and pattern test.
The Treat yarn I decided to work with to make the dragon is this rainbow Facets yarn in Cotton Candy which I had been wanting to use to see how it worked up and because I just generally tend to really favor the colorways of this yarn. I will say itās almost more like roving and can be tricky to frog, so I wouldnāt necessarily recommend it for amigurumi where I think the construction benefits from yarn with a more consistent thickness and less sticky fiber, but I still think it looks cool so far and havenāt run into major issues. Iām hoping Iāll get a chunk of free time soon to put a dent in this one, but hereās where Iām at presently:
My scrap project is one Iām actually super excited about, but havenāt made a lot of progress on. Itās called the Whidbey bag.
Iām using this old skein of a dark green yarn that feels a little too rough for a garment, but just right for a bag. After I make this channel for the i-cord, I think it will be smooth sailing because itās essentially just knitting stockinette in the round. The scrap magic happens by weaving the scraps between the stitches after the bag is completed, and the end result looks beautiful. Hoping Iāll have more to show you on this one sometime next week!
This was not a prompt-specific project, but I was also able to dip into some previously used yarns to knock out my pattern test for CheerfulCoyoteās deer snuggler that was linked in the inspo post above. I still have maybe a quarter of a skein for each of the colors, so Iāll probably try to make a small project from them to finish them off as I think they played nice together.
The week before I actually had gotten an early start on the prompt for learning a new stitch, and began making these even moss stitch mug rugs from Noelebellecrochet!
I got waylaid with work however, so never managed to share. Iāve made three already out of this remnant skein of mercerized cotton and am hoping I might be able to get another one out of it. The texture, both visually and its handfeel, are super pleasing to me. These coasters also make great on the go projects because theyāre so compact, which is awesome because Iāve been in the car and lot more lately.
Again, not for a prompt, but I finished up a pattern test of Snowi for sweetenedwithyarn and finished off nearly threeleftover skeins in the process (yay!).
One thing Iāve noticed after doing this challenge is I find myself reaching for my half used skeins first, when I used to always just grab a new color. I havenāt decided what project I want to do for this weekās prompt, but I am leaning towards a garment/accessory or a lovey.
And for the bonus prompt questions:
October
I may have answered this one, but my pattern collection is astronomical. In fact, next year I think I might host a pattern destash event if anyone wants to join me
I absolutely favor earthy tones. Rusts, browns, greens all feature prominently in my collection, but I was surprised to discover when organizing my yarn just how much purple and blue I own, too.
My projects are as eclectic as I am; I tend to jump around all over the various categories of projects and stitches. However, I will say my comfort zone is definitely smaller projects. Iām trying to change that though, and make time for larger ones.
I research my yarns beforehand when looking online, but generally let the yarn woo me when Iām looking in person A yarn that Iām eager to try is basically any from FuzzyPeachFibers. They are releasing a new collection of mushroom themed yarns and I havenāt stopped drooling since I saw the previews.
November (so far):
I have a metric ton of scraps that are neither organized nor stored well, so I usually just use them for stuffing or embroidering projects if I can find the color I want to use
I looooove learning new stitches; it tickles my brain finding new stitch patterns or using stitches in unexpected ways.
Those are all adorable!! The deer is especially cute; I love the colors.
Thank you so much! I honestly think the deer pattern is just so darling you canāt go wrong with any color choice If you havenāt already I highly recommend looking at that oneās gallery of makes; every single one is adorable
For this week prompt I decided to make a stocking ornament! (whats more cozy than a cute stocking?) It turned out really cute and Iām definitely going to make more.
Bonus prompt: I think maybe Bernat Blanket yarn. Itās really soft and fun to work with.
i was just showing off your tissue box to my mom today! i might need your notes cause she wants one for work lol
Thatās adorable! Youāre so right, too!! Love how festive it is ^.^
And bernat blanket is definitely a cozy yarn thatās fun to work with! The bernat baby blanket in white in particular is like unreal levels of softness, idk why that specific one but omg probably a top 3 softest yarns Iāve ever encountered
